Hey guys. Our computer has been acting a bit odd (read: slow) as of late. When starting windows (XP), the screen turns black after seeing the XP loading icon. This lasts about five minutes before we finally get to sign in. Many programs (such as windows media player) have been acting up as well, and using multiple programs is a complete nightmare. Now, I've checked for spyware and virusses, but to no avail. Task manager indicated that CPU usage is rarely higher then 10%, so that can't be it either. Nor is our HD full (we still have 105 gig, out of a grand total of 180). Any suggestions?

Run HijackThis and see what it picks up. Also, you can go into Task Manager and see what applications (and more specifically, processes) are running. If there's a rogue in there, it will show up in the Process list.

Hey, thanks guys. I've ran the two programs from Harks thread, and they did pick up a few virusses (what do I pay Norton for?). Things definately look better now
