I think this takes the cake in the Useless Skill category. why even bother giving a monk the ability to find a trap IF HE CANT DISARM IT??????? That is really stupid. Yes monks can hide in shadows and all that but why even bother searching for traps if he cant disarm them???

Is that just utterly useless or what???

I hope in any future versions of BG2 or 3 or 4, ect., they will either remove the find traps ablitity or correct it and let the monk try to disarm the trap.

Probably because they're 2 different skills. He's probably learned how to find traps so he can avoid them. Disarming them on the other hand is probably a lot lke picking lock, in that he'd need special training or skills that he just doesn't have.

I agree with you on that but there are several traps you CANT avoid. So its seems pretty useless to be able to find them and then do nothing about them. i know you can control+J over them but that defeats the purpose. any further thoughts on that??

Well, if the monk knows he CAN'T avoid them, then he'd better make sure he's fully healed and with a source of healing when he sets the trap off.

Speaking generally of all the BG and IWD games: Most traps CAN be avoided with care, even if at first it doesn't look like it. It just means moving your party one at a time so they can slide round the edge of it. Even the solid bars across the path can be edged around with care, usually. Just save before you try! The only ones there is any REAL trouble with are the ones just on the other side of the door you just went through... and those are not killers, just stuff like 'web' to hold you down...
Anyway, what are your healers for, lol?

1) Game balance
.
2) I think it is to simulate Zanshin (i.e., Chi Awareness) - they sense danger in that area but don't know how to stop it - they avoid it instead

I agree, it's a really cool skill, and makes character roleplay sense. It allows for specialisation in other characters too. He can always call in a thief with trap disarming skills who can't move silently or in shadows for example.
