Yet another PC problem (sorry guys!!)

Don't think it's so bad this time. After I shutdown my PC, when I start it up again, it always runs disk check as though it hadn't shut down properly. What is going on??

i had that kind of a problem before... i do know that your computer (power supply) shuts down before your windows does... i dont know how to fix that yet... wait till the expert comes [img]smile.gif[/img]

Had that problem too, I think the reason is when it's running Disk Check and you go ahead and close it off too often, it'll do it by itself to make up for it.

Hmmm....that could be it, though I hope it's the power supply thingy...oh, and I'm running Windows 2000 by the way, sorry!

If anything else doesn't work, start up you pc in Safe mode and just do a normal shut down... worked for me for a similar problem...

Safe mode could do the trick. It does wipe out a lot of the background settings in the registry and so often fixes things like this.

Theres also a registry key you could alter that might fix this, but I lost my note of it. Willow posted it a while back. It may be possible to fix this by going into control panel and searching for settings related to power saving etc.

It very well could be a dying power supply but I think its more of a registry thing.

If Im correct youve been have some serious problems lately and Id like to see if we can correct them.

First off, I'd like you to get a program called Ad Aware. This program searches your hard drive for known spyware. Spyware not only sends your data back to whomever, it can also be known to corrupt your registry. Thats why I want you to download it, or get it from a magazine disk for free.
www.lavasoftusa.com will take you to the main site for the program. Youll be offered mirrors to download it from. Its 1.45 megabytes. Just make sure you get the free version.

Once you run the scans remove all the elements that it finds. You'll be warned that removing the items found can cause some programs to cease functioning properly. Ignore that and remove them anyway. Once its finished reboot and go into safe mode.

Once inside safe mode do a Disk Cleanup and then Defrag. Restart in normal mode and then let it run, play games, whatever. Shut it down for a minute, boot it and see what happens.

If it doesnt help let me know and Ill see what else can be done.

Ok, Earthdog, I'll try that, and post here what happened. It'll take a while though, so I'll do it when I have time. Thanks a lot for the link and the advice, everyone! Really, I have lots of things to try out!

9 Folders identified

Total: 179 New objects
That seems a lot to me, is that bad?

Should i really delete ALL of them? Please let me know soon, as I won't delete anything until this is confirmed!
