... in BGII, of course. Who was in your party? What class/race was your protagonist?

I'm in a slump with character creation/ party formation, and I'm looking for some fresh ideas.

I'm currently going through with a melee heavy party.

Half-Orc Barbarian with halberds
Korgan with axes/war hammers
Minsc with swords/katanas/maces
Keldorn with two-handed swords
Jaheira with clubs/scimitars
Jan with crossbows/staff

I'm having a lot of fun. I'm learning about more of the different weapons and stuff in the game, and equipment is a challenge, with so many similar characters. It's a lot of fun, and there are a lot of banters, and also romance.

EDIT: Should add that I got this idea from an archived post at Sorcerer's Place.

Well, I'm playing solo, level 30 Kensai -> level 12 Mage/Human(Ease-of-Use). Hard to take out a Mage with 130 health .

The most fun I ever had with BG2 was playing multiplayer online with 2 other people who were equally skilled to me, and where we were at an appropriate (low) level to face the quests and be really challenged. Where it forced us to work together to survive.

It was in a game with Tactics installed, in the Saugin City, with a trio of player-characters around 20-25th level.

Actually, my favorite was my "knight" party:

 • PC Cavalier
 • Keldorn
 • Anomen
 • Mazzy (as close to a paladin a halfling can get)
 • Nalia (a noble mage)
 • Imoen (damsel in distress)
For some reason, "theme-based" parties stand out for me, and I tend to enjoy them more.

I am thinking of taking a chaotic party through the entire saga (either a CN Jester or CN ToB mage class, then pretty much randomly adding people in the party as they are encountered).

I'm trying a solo game with a Monk. =)
it's a nice class. And can be very funny, if you imagine your character like Jack Chan, Iron Fist or Shang Chi. Just try to imagine him figthing without any armor or weapon, against one with heavy armor and weapons.

most fun?

hmmm, that'd be shadowkeepering my party to level 1..

Not much more fun than taking the game as a level 1 party, though a bit of a fuss when getting NPC's to join still good laugh..

hmmm, and I had every orginal joinable NPC in my party, though I killed off the one's I didn't like at opertune moments.. I like making stautes out of them, the copper cornet has quite a few life like stautes in the back room's now..

I also like "theme-based" parties and the most fun I've had to date occured in the "evil party" I'm currently playing.

My PC is a human assassin and my most enjoyable moment occurred upon my first return visit to De'Arnise Keep after being put in charge of the place by Nalia. I had to listen to some whiny merchant complain about losing his shipment and then DEMAND repayment for his losses. Instead of repaying him, I chose to have him publicly executed as a warning to other merchants that might be thinking about making ridiculous "demands" of their new lord. LOL. I had actually never even noticed it was an option before, but telling the guard to drag the merchant into the courtyard and kill him as a warning to others just fit my character so perfectly, there was no way I could pass it up.

If you are looking for ideas for a new PC or party, here are some of my other theme-based parties I'm working on or playing.

Evil Party
Assassin - PC
Keldorn
Viconia
Edwin/Edwina
Jaheira (cause I also had the Concurrent Romance installed and my assassin is hoping to score with all 3 ladies )
Yoshimo (cause my assassin just loved the traps he set for our ambushes on the Cowled Wizards)

Girl Party
Kensai/Mage - PC
Jaheira
Aerie
Nalia
Kelsey (for Romance interest)
Anomen (to provide variety and options for romance - girls should be able to "play the field" too. )

Demi-Human Party
Elven Ranger (currently playing through BG1
Jaheira
Aerie
Haer Dalis
Mazzy
Jan

I'm also trying several different classes myself, to see how I like them.

I'm currently playing a Jester (patterned after Joker from Batman comics). Other classes/kits I've started are:
1) Female Skald (best combat abilities of Bard class and the Bard ability to ID items is very handy_
2) Dwarven Barbarian (pure tank)
3) Half-orc Swashbuckler
4) Female elven cleric/mage
5) Female Undead Hunter (a wench that will be almost as insufferable as Anomen..thus making them a perfect pair).

Those are most of the ideas I'm working on for now. I've managed to get the Joker and his party out of Chateau Irenicus and I'm preparing to kill the dwarf and his buddies in the Inn next to where we came out. So far, he is working surprisingly well - although I think the Bard Song is a pretty useless benefit, since the character can't do anything else while using it. Still the incredible ability to Identify magical items more than makes up for that.
