I blame the museum for not putting the paintings behind glass, or something, to make sure nothing happens. They should know better, what with America's grand education as it is.

Does he know what he did? Is he repetant? An apology is in order, and if its needed, work and compensation, but whipping the shit out of the boy for what may have been an accident isn't needed. He has to pay though, somehow.

Wow. Society is in a downward spiral into oblivion sooner than I had thought possible.

Gangrell, Many paintings, especially oils, aren't put behind glass for a number of reasons. I'm not an artist, but once was told that some paints/canvasses need to 'breathe' and some are seen best without glass to reflect or distort things.

But I do wonder how the kid just walked right up and did that without anyone saying anything as he approached that closely.

I've been to a lot of museums and all of them have been quite easy to access paintings without anyone seeing you before it's too late.

Cloudy my dear, you are correct in the glass, oil, and breathing association. However, most displays today are open, and viewable, and as this case in point, touchable. The ultra-uber-mega-(pricless) paintings are well guarded, but a mere 1.5M rendition is not. The "implied" rules of the museum are not to touch, as would be a rule of society, which returns me to my original point. He is a product of the modern thing we call society.
