There's little that I can add to this thread that hasn't been said already. Especially dplax's reply essentially says what crossed my mind upon reading Cloudy's post.
At first I was surprised, because I never realised that Animal was sick. I had read his "Good-bye"-thread in Undermountain but assumed something else was going on. The next thing I felt was guilt because I never really got to know the man who is so universally praised in this thread. I do not blame myself for anything, but regret, in my eyes, falls short in this matter. My final emotion on reading this thread was sadness, because it is evident that he was a great man and will never be forgotten in the hallow halls of Ironworks and Undermountain.

Rest in peace, Animal. I salute you.

Can't say I know the man much. Just post here to pay my respect; may his soul rest in peace.

Goodbye Animal. I wish I had gotten to say it to you before, but I'm sure they have a connection up in heaven and you're reading this, so take care old friend and know that you won't be forgotten.
You touched more lives all around the world then most do in a lifetime twice as long as yours.

I saw Animal's posts frequently in GD in the days of yore when I frequented it, and they were usually high quality, He will be missed by those whose lives he touched, even in a small way. Fare thee well. The Bard said it better than I could, "Now cracks a noble heart. Good night, sweet prince, And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest."

Sad news indeed. I knew Animal from the GD forum, and his views and contributions will be sorely missed. RIP dude.

I wanted to post this last night but couldn't find it and was too out of it to stay up and search- The last thing Animal told me was to "love Jim" (my husband) and never forget that loving relationship was the most important thing in my life. He'd spoken before about how much he still loved his wife after she died so soon into their marriage and about cherishing your loved ones because you never know what might happen in life, things don't always go the way you'd expect them to. They certainly didn't for Animal.

His goodbye message to us was about not taking life for granted. I know it was what he thought about alot after his doctor told him there was no cure for him.

I thought this song by Tim McGraw was very fitting and ever since the day I learned he wouldn't be with us much longer, I think of him whenever I hear it.

Live Like You Were Dying
2004 Live Like You Were Dying Curb Records

He said I was in my early forties
With a lot of life before me
When a moment came that stopped
me on a dime
And I spent most of the next days
Looking at the x-rays
And talking ‘bout the options, talking
‘bout sweet time
And I asked him when it sank in
That this might really be the end
How’s it hit ya’ when you get that
kind of news
Man, what’d you do (he said)
C H O R U S
I went sky diving I went rocky
mountain climbing
I went two point seven seconds on a
bull named Fumanchu
And I loved deeper and I spoke sweeter
And I gave forgiveness I’d been denying
And he said one day I hope you get a
chance
To live like you were dying
He said I was finally the husband
That most the time I wasn’t
And I became a friend a friend would
like to have
And all ‘a sudden going fishin’
Wasn’t such an imposition
And I went three times that year I lost
my dad
And I finally read the good book
And I took a good long hard look
At what I’d do if I could do it all
again…and then
C H O R U S
Like tomorrow was a gift
And you’ve got eternity to think of what
you did with it
What you did with it…what did I do with it
C H O R U S

Any way we can make this a sticky post so that any members who may not show up for a few days will see it?

What the...

Bloody hell.

I guess I was not that close to him. I mean I had no idea. I thought he left NWN because he was busy. I like him, I respect him greatly. His posts always hit me, he'd always lend out a helping hand with my queries... I always liked it when he posted.

I am flabbergasted, and even if I am not close to him, heck I am mourning like I am.

I have posted my thoughts about this elsewhere, but I will add to this that this is a great shock and sadness. RIP, Mark.
