First question: Canberra (NOT Sydney, NOT Melbourne)
Second question: Great Britain (not sure if that's what you wanted as an answer.. maybe you meant something different)

Nope Wellard, the Union Jack is a perfectly good name for it as well. I read Adrian Mole where Barry Kent wears the Union Jack to school once. Also; read this link:

http://www.geo.ed.ac.uk/home/scotland/saltire.html

You can see in the third paragraph that both the Union Flag and Union Jack are good names for the flag we're talking about.

Sorry link the flag IS the union flag though I suppose if nearly everyone calls it union jack then it sort of makes it real. but then the *star spangled banner* is not the offical name of the usa flag.

I will try and post a link on it with more evidence.

and sorry no again great britain is not the full and complete title of that country

I'm going to agree with wellard here - it is the Union Flag. 'Jack' is a diminutive nickname for a smaller (usually square) variant of a flag flown from the bows of a ship.

Hope you don't mind my using this here /)eathKiller.

I wonder, how many people here would recognise the English, Scottish, Welsh or Irish flags as "stand alone" flags? As opposed to the Union flag.

Err, I'm not asking the above nations btw.
To help with your poll Charlie - I can admit to knowing what all those flags are and look like. Maybe I have spent too much time around people like Mouse and Donut

This in addition to the polls: I've seen a documentary on tv once, when people on vacation were asked where exactly they were. Most people didn't even point at the right country... d'oh!
