Just something funny I remembered today while at the mall:

When I was younger, me and a friend were looking for AD&D Books and Modules.. so we go into a bookstore, and ask this older women "Got any Dungeons & Dragons Novels or Modules?". You should have seen her face, like I farted or something.. then she says "Young man, this is a >Christian< Book store".. I pause.. and go.. "Um.. yeah?" and she says "We don't carry that TYPE of material".

Ignorance...

Any of you get that "D&D is satanic" or some crap like that? ugh. ok, rant over.

I've done the same. I was looking for a travel book for Africa or somewhere. It took me a while to click why all the books in the travel section were about pilgramiges to the Middle East or Rome.

I did, however, manage to leave discretly and I don't think anyone realised.

ROFL! Actually, where I came from, the main Christian religion was Catholic, and most of them were gamers! We didn't have too much of a fundamentalist problem. However, I've heard some horror stories from certain sectors; book burnings, et al...

I never had a problem with "fundys" until I moved to Texas. Once in a store while looking over some CRPG's, one of them got in our faces and told us we were of the devil and were going to, well you know. I looked at the person and said, "Of us here, you are obviously the devil worshipper, since you seem to see him in everything."

The person got away from us as quickly as possible.

Fortunately, that was the only experience I've had. The hilarious thing...I was in my 20's and in grad school.

Yes I have noticed how D&D has gotten a bad reputation. Seems a lot of people think you are a devil worshipper or something if you get into D&D. I have also seen a few movies portraying young teenagers playing D&D and it always winds up where said teenager goes insane or kills someone, etc. They make it look like it was the "D&D Obsession!" that made him the way he was! What utter cripe!

I hope someday all roleplaying games will get the respect they deserve in the future.

Never actually got that far into a Christian bookstore... As soon as I walk in, alarms go off, lights start flashing, the employees drop to their knees and start praying for "the evil to be cast out" and mall security shows up to escort me away... odd, that...

Well, I just happen to be left-handed and had a kindergarden teacher who practically sprinkeled holy-water on me while she forced me to write right-handed (To save me from h$ll!) That I didn't mind as much as the right-handed scissors! To this day I still mostly write right-handed (awkward for the south-paw) but draw and do almost everything else left-handed... I must admit I was pretty PO'd when I got into the 1st-grade and saw that whole rack of green-handled left-handed scissors!!!

Dear LadyRae: One would have hoped that such tactics would have passed away with the Salem Witch burnings.

The level of ignorance perpetrated in this country never ceases to amaze and disgust me.
