Helmets... everybody gets one?

There is no helmet skill in this game, and as far as I can tell, there is no arcane spellcasting failure chance either.

Is there any reason everybody shouldn't be wearing a helmet?

Coolness factor. Personally, I think my badass drow mage looks awesome with his silver hair showing, not with a stupid helmet that protrudes from his otherwise lanky and robed frame.

Of course, looks aside, you may as well give everyone a helmet or some form of headgear.

I agree with Marty -if this IS Marty-, sometimes in favor of having my characters looking the most like the portraits i give them, I do not give them helmets. Anyway, there aren't many wOw helmets in this game like in BG2...
