which would be the ideal cleric choice keeping the whole game in mind. while playing IWD 1, i didn't use the heal spell too often. instead i'd just rest thereby recharging my spell repertoire as well. so this time for IWD 2 i chose a dreadmaster since i plan to multiclass into the monk class when she becomes 12/13th lvl. what say??

Well, most of the cleric dieties are great(except some like Oghma..). But mind you, in IWD2, you'll be using a whole lot more of healing spells.

In case you haven't read this in another thread, my favorite is Lathander. Their domain spells are healing and mass damage, the two best uses of the cleric IMHO. Talos is also good for this.

I'd say that a dreadmaster is a pretty good choice, since they get the plus 2 wisdom later in the game do to a quest (it might be plus 1 im not sure) and you can do it again in HOW.

I also agree with marty that the best (or my favorite also) is the cleric of lathander. With some mass destruction spells such as firestorm and some good protection spells such as defensive harmony.

Question Mark

If our choices are limited to clerics, the I concur with Morninglord of Lathander being the best choice.

However, for maximum healing, use a bard--nothing cures a party like the War Chant of Sith. This also frees up a cleric to choose spells other than healing, even though IWD2 allows for auto-casting of heal spells.

I thought only one of the cleric types could be dualed to monk, but I might be wrong. I know for sure that only one of the monk classes can be combined with cleric.

All cleric types can be dualled to monk. All monks can be dualled to all cleric. However if you dual from monk to cleric you lose the ability to gain more monk levels, unless you chose the correct monk type, which can be dualled to painbarer of ilmater and still later be able to gain more monk levels.

krunchy, my first cleric ever was a tempus half-orc. Personally I found him great, but that's because I like summons.

That said, although the extra spells are great, they are only two per level , and not something that will make or break a cleric. I usually look at it more roleplay-wise when choosing a cleric domain, with special abilities having second priorities, and spells coming last.

The real power within cleric's domains lie in their granted powers they receive.

therefore, Morninglord of Lathander rules:
a cleric's main power is to rebuke undead. and since bioware liked to bring in many undead to the game, its VERY good to get the free feat "IMPROVED TURNING" to increase your caster level +1 for turning checks.

Since you will always rebuke undead, you should choose this feat. With Lathander as patron deity, you dont need to pay for this and can buy another feat instead (i like to maximize my extra turning feat thrice, its just overwhelming..)
