O.k. I have an admission to make. (Here goes.)

I love the new Shania Twain song and video... "I'm gonna getcha good"

Argh. I don't want to. How can I have any self respect?

But the song intrigues me. The two different versions (pop vs country) are subtly different. The pop one is a little darker. The country one slightly bouncier. Mainly it's a few key different parts, or in some cases the exact part played by an organic instrument in the country version, and a synthetic instrument playing it in the pop version.

It intrigues me.

THe other thing is Mutt Lange. His vocals are all over the song. As a craftsman, he is brilliant. He has a reputation amongst musicians who work for him as being anal, but that can equate genius. Or obsessive compulsive. I guess it's all taste.

Anyhow, in the song there are more hooks than a fishing carnival. So I find in spite of every instinct telling me I should hate the trite commercial pop hit it is, I actually enjoy the melody, find the instrumental parts interesting, the rhythms and melodic hooks catchy and the lyric... sexy. Eeek. Yes.

Now, as for the video. Shania is gorgeous. Tacky, yep. "Uncool" of course. But boy is she beautiful. I'm addicted to the smile, the toss of the hair, the pink lipstick, the flash of the eys.

She puts in a good performance, and the camera work is really good. Very well done. The computer art is interesting, even though it has nothing to do with the lyric.

Ah. Am I pathetic or what? I must have watched it on Launch 20 times or something. Comparing the two versions.

I mean, I can take solace in that it is my profession, and I'm analysing all the parts.

No I can't I'm pathetic... A pop junkie.

I have to admit that i agree with you. It's not my style of music either but it's a catchy tune.

I have to agree with you Yorick, though that's the only tune on that album I can even come close to liking.

Shania is one damned fine woman! I have friends that swear she's 100% silicone , others say she untuoched by a surgeons hand (I tend to believe the latter) but either way, she has appeal. You mention she's tacky, and I have to agree - but she actually manages to pull it off without looking foolish! Quite an achievment.

The video is well done, good CGI - but I still like That Don't Impress Me Much better.

Something about a giant flying robot chasing a singing girl on a motorbike through a futuristic setting with aliens seems a tad... differint for country doesnt it? Then again I suppose anything is better than her down on the farm singing next to a cow with some chickens pecking at the mic stand...

I kind of like Shania as well, but then again I will also admit to a genuine appreciation of the "Ketchup Song" by Las Ketchup, so my opinion cannot be trusted

Yorick, you may not be cool, but at least you are happy

Have to admit I've never heard it!
And that Ketchup song? Heard it once and was quite frankly confused - why is it the Ketchup song?

Currently listening to Rex Garvin and the Mighty Cravers

Well, I'm not at all embarressed to say that I am not a big fan of the song. Its not even that I'm not a big fan of Shania Twain (although I'm not), I just don't like this specific song. Its my most disliked out of everything I've heard her do. It just seems so overly, horrendously, tacky. I does get into your head, but in this case thats not a good thing. I've had to resort to the age-old "National Anthem" trick to get the damn thing out of there on several occasions. Sorry, I just don't like it.
