There is to much tips in the best tips thred so I think we should put toghether a thred of the best 10 or 20 tips we can think of if .
the only rule is that there can only be a max of 25 tips in this thred you can write replys like i have a better tip than bla bla and could you remove this so I can put this in but there cant be more than 25 tips!!!

I don't have a problem with the current best tips thread. because it has an index it is easy to use.
It could be improved by combining posts that say the same thing. It would be better to only have 1 post per tip. Whoever edits it could mention the people that contributed to the tip.
Perhaps this way it might become less unwieldy.

Good points from both of you. Perhaps after we've clean up the Techie Help Desk, we can look at reviewing the best tips thread for some more streamlining.

Keep in mind that both of these threads (Help Desk and Best Tips) grew out of people noticing a lot of repetitive posts. So they started out as something simple, and have grown ever since. And while the tech thread hit the wall first, they are both rather substantial.

Stay tuned for more information... same bat-time, same bat-channel!

I have been considering reorganizing the BEST TIPS thread for some time and hope to find the time to do so in the near future. Currently, I am a little too busy with other "real" life responsibilities, but it will happen.

In the meantime, it is still wise to put any new tips into the BEST TIPS thread so we don't have a whole bunch of threads to bump up (until Ziroc gets sticky posts reinstalled on the boards).

WillowIX, you probably dont need to have a new index, the one that is there is ok. Just fine tune the multiple posts to a tip.

All right, Willow, we'll talk. I'll volunteer to help with the reindexing.

And I think reindexing will be needed, 'cause the current index simply points you to a page where the post is. I suspect we'd want to do your fancy cross-linked cross-dressed cross-town index format. Then we could indicate categories of tips (startup, money, specific dungeon, gameplay, salads, etc.).

And I agree, Wyv -- no new best tips thread until we're ready to replace the current one. Just keep adding to the back...

Chi master, in regards to your top 25 best tips idea. It has already been done on the ironworks.com main page. I think it was compiled by Xignal with ideas from others, possibly this forum. It relates to gameplay not tech tips.

Thanks Bungleau. So how to divide the work? How about you do the index and I supply you with encouraging remarks? LOL! The best tip index will probably be more simple since the entries already are listed. But that´s for another day...

ps. Bungleau, to do the new tech index I used frontpage. Was a piece of cake actually. So if you like to do the future best tip index that´s a hint forya

Thanks for the hint, WillowIX. I've used FrontPage before, and still have a copy sitting around here (I last used HoTMetaL Pro for web design). And actually, what I'd probably ask you to do is just email a copy of the file with the HTML code in it. I can tweak it from there

Hmmmm... I make the index, and you provide the support? Okay, as soon as we get this tech thread rolling, we can negotiate it a bit more. My favorite kinds of support involve a certain Blue beverage brewed in your country...
