I've never tried it with 'evil eye'...

But I have used 'Petrification' on creatures and then gone back later and used 'Stone to Flesh' to thaw them out.

Welcome to the board, Morningstar! I'm sure you'll like it here.

As for the crabs, I found stealing to be more effective than slaying them. With stealing, you'll get multiple chances to get a shell; with slaying, you get one (did it drop or not).

I'd suggest just wandering around (with spawn rate set to high, of course). There are a fair number of crabs, and they're also worth some very decent XP.

And check in the shipyards to see what's been made from each batch of shells. You need a helmet and breather apiece, and you can get multiples (I think 3) from each shell brought in.

And since you're out there, don't miss the chest buried deep in the water south of Collasium. Not much, but it's stuff.
