Default spontaneous combustion

spontaneous combustion - I have heard of this before but never really gave it much thought

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2011-09-2...ustion/2941050
'from the bbc'

A coroner in Ireland has ruled that a 76-year-old man died as a result of "spontaneous combustion".

The coroner says he found no other plausible explanation for the death of Michael Faherty, who burned to death in his Galway home last December.

Deaths attributed to "spontaneous combustion" occur when a body is burned without an apparent external source of ignition.

So what do you guys think? myth or fact?

I haven't heard of any cases in years. To the best of my knowledge there is still no ocnvincing scientific explanation of this phenomenon.

Aye, to me it's more like something caught him on fire but there is no evidence to say what it was. When people are present it is an unfortunate accident.

IIRC, Most scientists believe that it occurs usually in overweight people, when an unidentified source, usually presumed a cigarette, ignites the clothes of a person whilst they are asleep, and the combination of fat/fabric act very similarly to a wick/candle.

I think the odds of this one coming in to play are relatively slim
