I suspect that SoU has changed some of the restrictions on how item bonuses can affect stats. I thought that the old NWN system (before SoU) had a stat cap of 30 with no more than TWO items capable of adding stat bonuses NOT EXCEEDING +10.

Unless I am mistaken, in SoU the stat cap has been raised to 32, the two item restriction STILL applies, and the total stat bonus is now +12.

Is that right??

From what i understood it was a stat cap of 20 (char creation) +5 level up + 10 equipment for the old NWN.
I thought that they were adding epic levels to the 3rd expansion, and that the stat cap bonus was +12 instead for the 2nd expansion
so...35 old
37 2nd expansion
and not sure how many stat bonus's u can get as feats in next expansion, but should be 37 + that.

gabrielle blades,

yes, hotu is adding feats which will permanently add stats, and afaik there is no limit to the number of times they can be taken. I'm not sure that affects the stat cap though - it simply makes it more likely that you will bump into it.

just found this thread in the NWN forums ... still checking

gb,

you are 100% correct ... here is the confirmation from the boards.

There's not a STAT cap restriction per say but a STAT BONUS cap restriction. Important difference.

There is no max on what your stat can be raised to but there is a max on how much enchantments can add to your stats and how you purchase your stats.

In NWN the max bonus from items/spells was +10.
In SoU the max bonus from items/spells was +12.

The max you can initially purchase in a stat was 18 with a max bonus of +2 from race. This resulted in a max starting stat of 20 plus a potential of +5 from levels. Adding in the +10 from items spells the max you could have is 35 in NWN. SoU effectively raised that to 37 because items could give another 2 points.

HotU will further raise this. They will be adding an addition of up to +10 from bonus levels, +10 from bonus feats, +8 From 10 levels of DD making up to 48 (for strength) not counting item bonuses.

I've never encountered the limit to the number of items that can raise stats, I use the gauntlets of Ogre Strength, Daelan's Amulet, and the Belt of Fire Giant str on my fighter, and they all work, however the +12 (from items, spells, etc) max is effective still

well that'd kill the +20 Dex. on the Monk I was talking about. At least you have wisdom to boost with a Monk as well (which is what I did with my pure Monk).
