Ever asked yourself this? Well, I might just have worked this out!
First of all, here's a listing of what professions, use what spell book: Wizardry: Pure - Mage, Bishop & Hybrid - Samurai Alchemy: Pure - Alchemist, Bishop & Hybrid - Ranger, Ninja Psionic: Pure - Psionic, Bishopn & Hybrid - Monk Divinity: Pure - Priest, Bishop & Hybrid - Lord, Valkyrie And to qualify for a spell level, you have to reach the following character level: Spell Level 1 - Character Level 1 Spell Level 2 - Character Level 3 Spell Level 3 - Character Level 5 Spell Level 4 - Character Level 8 Spell Level 5 - Character Level 11 Spell Level 6 - Character Level 14 Spell Level 7 - Character Level 18 With hybrid spellcasters needing 4 more character levels than pure spellcasters. This is all explained here if you're wondering where this info came from. Ok, now on to the theory; (1) Let's take a level 20 Bishop, that started as a Mage for the first 10 levels Wiz: 10 Mage + 10 Bishop = 20, therefore Spell Lvl 7 avail Alc: 10 Bishop = 10, therefore Spell Lvl 4 avail Psi: 10 Bishop = 10, therefore Spell Lvl 4 avail Div: 10 Bishop = 10, therefore Spell Lvl 4 avail Simple so far. (2) Same level 20 Bishop, but this time started as a Samurai for the first 10 levels Wiz: (10-4) Samuari + 10 Bishop = 16, therefore Spell Lvl 6 avail Alc: 10 Bishop = 10, therefore Spell Lvl 4 avail Psi: 10 Bishop = 10, therefore Spell Lvl 4 avail Div: 10 Bishop = 10, therefore Spell Lvl 4 avail (3) This time let's really mix it up, a level 30 Ranger, that started as an Alchemist for the first 10 levels, then a Lord for the next 10 levels, and finally was a Ranger for the remaining 10 (and probably needing job councelling by now) Wiz: No Wizardry-using professions, therefore no Spell Lvl avail Alc: 10 Alchemist + (10-4) Ranger = 16, therefore Spell Lvl 6 avail Psi: No Psionic-using professions, therefore no Spell Lvl avail Div: (10-4) Lord = 6, therefore Spell Lvl 3 avail It doesn't matter whether the character changes from one profession to another and then back again, the levels for any one profession accumulate. Which solves the concerns RuPaul raised. Now for the fun part!!! I've created a small spreadsheet that uses this theory, what I want to do is get everyone to test it (see if I works for everyone). If you go to http://wiz8.web1000.com/NextVersion.html you can download this file and try it out. Then if you e-mail the filled-in file to me (wizardry8@mail.com), I'll keep a tally of how many worked or not. If all goes well, this can then be added into the now famed Wiz8SpellAbility spreadsheet (see signature below). TIA

If you think what you see here is bad, you _really_ don't want to know about the formulae used in the spell availablity calculations!
