I have killed the big 'eye' and now have the rift device - looking at Shadowkeeper there is no mention of UNSEEINGEYE at that point
I go back and give the device to the Avatar and UNSEEINGEYE is now in global variables and set to 2 - BUT when I get back to the temple and try and speak to ??? (Can't remember name) there are two - one outside and one inside - neither want to congratulate me on completing the quest - Also the quest page still states that I have to give the rift device back - I have. - Any suggestions / fixes even with Shadowkeeper as I feel I have done everything posible (including killing the guards at the unseeing eye entrance. I really don't want to go back to a saved game...

Yes its about the only way of defeating the Unseeing Eye 'beholder' as far as I know

I think your relying on Shadowkeeper too much

and since I have no clue how to use the globals, I suggest you go back to the save

Sorry I will have to disagree. I have not 'cheated' and changed anything using Shadowkeeper and anyway even if I did that is my choice. I have simply looked at the saved game at two different points and noticed the difference and wonder if I have come across some sort of bug - it has taken some time to go down the Sewers, do the HaDalis (sp?) side quest and finish the Unseeing Eye. As I have a job, time for the game is limited and I don't like having the 'unfinished' messages left in the quest book - I have already gained exp points when I spoke to the Avatar and he took the completed item so in reality I don't care... its just that I like to tidy everything up and my main Character is a Cleric so this should be the 'stronghold' quest.
I post helpful replies when I feel I have the knowledge or time - thanks for the posting but...

Gain rod, use rod vs. unseeing, see avatar.

You don't have to use the rod against the Unseen Eye. I killed him without using the device and then use the device on the Shade Lich. Then I turned in the device.
