a man dies and leaves an inheritance of 100,000$ the money was to be divided between his 3 sons and their wives.

the three wives received 39,600$ all together. Jane received 1000$ more than Kathrine, and Mary received 1000$ more than Jane.
John received the same amount as his wife, Harry was given 50% more than that which his wife received, and Tom got twice as much as his wife.

How much money did each of them receive?

The first half of it's easy... The wives got 39,600, or an average of 13,200. Jane got 13,200, Kathrine 12,200, and Mary got 14,200.

That leaves 60,400 for the men. John got either 12,2, 13,2, or 14,2. Harry got either 18,3, 19,8, or 21,3. Tom got either 24,4, 26,4, or 28,4.

Since it's got to add up to 60,4, that rules out the 18,3 and 21,3 options for Harry. So Harry got 19,800.

That leaves 40,600 got John and Tom. The numbers go opposites, so it's either 12,2 and 28,4 or 14,2 and 24,4. Only the first one adds up to 40,6, so John got 12,200 and Tom got 28,400.

So...

Kathrine.. 12,200 + John.... 12,200
Jane...... 13,200 + Harry... 19,800
Mary...... 14,200 + Tom..... 28,400
