1. You can level up anywhere. It does not matter where but... But don't forget that you can train only once after leveling up and then you must wait for next level up. In the other words, if you level up twice then you lose one oportunity to train. If you are training intensively your people then make sure you can reach a town after every level up. (Sure, you can continue and not level up, reach the town, train, and then level up, etc.)
2. I don't know what do you mean by "2nd level characters" etc. If you mean "elite role" and "special role" then, no, even a "first level character", which has never changed his role, can become a zenmaster (assassin, valkyrie).
3. You must have somebody in the inn. You can generate characters only in Valeia. In the other words, either you have a party (more than one character) or you must take somebody else to Ishad N'Ha and Brimloch Roon (if you are playing a solo character). Any "party" can generate money in the inn - not only a special character.

Welcome to the boards, LiOnHe@rT! May your journey through the Gael Serran bring you riches, fame, and lots of entertainment.

Now, for your questions:

1. You can level up anywhere. The cost is the same. So, the answer to your question is that the best place to level up is usually the closest place.

2. Assuming that by second-level characters you're referring to the roles like ranger, paladin, monk, warlock, etc., the answer is no, you don't have to. As you travel around, you will find that each character can become almost every class in the normal course of a game. With the exception of the elite classes, of course; but most of them don't become possible until you're amost done.

3. The infinite gold trick only works in the unpatched game (at least, if you're thinking of the same trick I'm thinking of). However, once you get past Ishad N'ha, you can legitimately acquire large sums of gold without having to do much extra work, so the infinite gold trick is far less useful. At the end of my last game, I had something like 50 million gold stashed away in the bank (in addition to the 20 or 30 million I carried with me

Hopefully, I haven't spoiled things too much for you. Do let us know how things are going.

The Crypt is a nice leveling up place early in the game. There are an abundance of bats and skeletons in there. I would also suggest Rumphy (the ghost/wraith-like) creature in the basement of the crypt) as a good xp target. You can kill this guy over and over, but you must leave the crypt for him to repop. Good xp and he drops a wand which sells for pretty good $gp$. I recommend getting 10 of them in inventory then identifying them all at once. One price to identify, but all will identify at the same time. [must all be in the same character's inventory for this to work] Very nice way to get money early in the game without cheating. I never use strict cheats to cheat. NOTE: I do not consider the fletching of super Dragon arrows to be cheating. It is not my fault that there is (an apparant) infinite demand for my magic arrows at the town's shops.

Gday LiOnHe@rT,
Welcome aboard. There is a better way to obtain gold without using a cheat. Get the rangers fletchery skill & fletch dragon arrows for sale. You just equip a bow & put your most expensive arrow in the 1st quiver slot, then he will make arrows whenever you are not doing anything else. Goodluck.

oic..........gee thx a lot n i mean ALOT guys. u ppl. sure know a lot bout this game =)!
regarding the special roles, aka 3rd level classes, like the zen master, is it true dat u can only make ONE character a zen master, ONE character a valkyrie and ONE charater an assasin??? or is there some trick as to let all of your six charaters be the 3rd level roles, coz for example, u need the assasin's dagger to become an assasin n after that the dagger would disappear after becoming an assasin. how do u keep the dagger n prevent it from disappearing???
(pls. tell about the other 2 3rd level roles too please...)

In the game, only one character can become a zenmaster, valkyrie, or assassin. If you wanted, that could be the same single character, so it's possible that you could end up with one zenmaster and five other powerful characters.

You can, however, reset adventures at any point, which lets you play the game again from the beginning. Your characters keep everything except quest items and guild levels.

So you could get one character up to each of the three classes, and then move another trio of characters up to those classes in a second game. Then you could reset adventures again, and play with two of each.

Or you could just keep resetting adventures and play with a party of six zenmasters, valkyries, or assassins. I think WillowIX or Packrat was doing something like that recently.

I played a solo zenmaster, and had a lot of fun. I haven't had the patience to build up a super team of six special characters.

And one thing to add on fletchery: your character will make arrows until you have 50 in that first arrow slot. At that point, he or she will stop, so it's a good idea to periodically reduce the number of arrows in that number one slot to one. As well, you want to be careful when combat happens. Nothing like shooting your last blessed dragon arrow and realizing that the money well has dried up...
