This might sound a bit harsh, but if it was up to me, i'd remove all captured rapists dongs. If you stab someone the cops take away the knife, if you shoot someone the cops take away the gun, so if you rape someone...... know what i'm saying ? They'll never do THAT again, that's for sure.

Hmmmm... searching for British crime statistics on the internet is like scratching my eyeballs. Maybe it is because I do not know where to start looking, I will need somebody from Britain/UK to point me in the right direction.

Note, I am replying in chronological order, to no one in particular.

I was expecting the 'unreported factor' argument( and I do acknowledge its presence), but under the assumption that this 1:20 ratio is from the British police files, then it sorts of nullifies the argument as both British and Singaporean sides will have their own unreported cases. I am dealing with the reported figures right now, and 1:20 compared to 1:20000 is huge, which is why I say I find it hard to believe that Britain have a thousand times more rape.

Yes, one rape is already too many, but there is also no need to blow things out of proportion. I am not advocating that we ignore rape or consider it a minor issue, but we have to be credible.

In addition, saying that Singapore's small size is a factor is not valid. I have been using ratios, not whole numbers.

The only African country I have been to is Egypt. Europe-wise, I have only been to United Kingdom( England, Scotland and Wales), and a brief stay( 2d3n days) in Turkey.

I have someone that is very close to me that was raped in high school and she never reported it. Many women never report rapes out of embarassment and shame. In many cultures it is looked on as the woman's fault, which I think is totally ridiculous!

Remember that Singapore stands out amoung other countries because of it's law and order stance. Most cultures and countries aren't like that. What happens there is not a reflection of what happens in the other 99% of the world. (And I don't mean that as a flame either! [img]smile.gif[/img] )

It's be estimated by some in the US that only about a fourth of actual rapes go reported. I'd assume that the UK is no different. Probably not in the Netherlands either for that matter.

Well I live in Britain and I just saw it on the news and it definetly said one in twenty. I don't argree that they should "disarm" the rapists though. Don't get me wrong I think rape is a terrible thing but by "disarming" the rapists it takes away any of the rapists being allowed a second chance in life afterall people can change so what if someone raped someone and while they were in prison changed and became a better person and would never do anything like that again that would be a bit harsh on them. It would be a VERY good idea for serial rapeists though.

I don't care if a rapist changes. He certainly won't do it unless he suffers a severe punishment for what he's done, and most probably don't change at all. "Disarm" them. Without painkillers.
