spoilerish-

Full plate mail is the best armour in the game and contrary to what guides say (2 full plate maximum) its untrue as i found some more, and possibly more out there, in the bandit camp talk to and attack guy in front of the main tent and he has full plate mail on him, reason i say its the best:

full plate mail + +2 protection ring or cloak = -1 ac
full plate mail+1 + well nothing cant have extra ac as well because its +1

so in effect with full plate mail you get more (coupled with good protection ring of cloak)

full plate +1 is great armour but not quite as good because it limits itself, also its equal to drizzt chainmail +4 or plate +3 which again cannot be coupled with other protection items.

There is only 2 full plate mails in the original game. The expansions have brought more.

And I agree with you on the effect of FPM vs. FMP+1 - It's nice to be able to wear a ring+2 in addision to your armor

seen a few faqs on the web stating there is only 2 full plates in the entire game with expansion, anyhows i bet in the original game theres more than 2 full plates, kill everyone concerned and i think you'd find some more.

Of course if you don't know the game too well, you could be forgiven for accepting the relevance of the +1 Full Plate.

Most people start IE games without appreciating the secondary armour bonuses vs. weapon types. Very important that. Considering it used to be worked out for each weapon individually, and now it's one size fits all.

thats why im giving that tip, cos me personally id prefer full plate+1 it just seems so much better which is why i wish could wear it at same time as +2 ring but not to worry the graphic for fullplate is better than for fullplate+1 anyway i found so much good armour in the game when i deliberately initiate combat with people i wouldnt normally because im playing good and not evil, so thats one edge evil people get, better EQ drops

Hmm.. interesting. I always stick with Ankheg no matter how good armor there would be, it looks so good on my ranger.

Just one question, Grungi: Since you already know about the Ring and Cloak of Protection+2, why are you only now discovering the armor that Taugoz Khosann drops?

Any online FAQ that states that there are only 2 Full Plates in BG1/ToSC is wrong. (There are 2 in BG1, ToSC adds 1 more.) ToSC also adds a second set of Full Plate+1, but it is SO difficult to get. Essentially, if you're strong enough to get it, you don't need it.

Full Plate: Required for getting the best AC / Saving Throws possible
Full Plate+1: Best armor for a Fighter/Thief or a Cleric/Thief
Plate+3: Not as good as the Full Plate+1, but looks great with the Helm of Glory and the Ashideena Warhammer
Ankheg Plate: Excellent treehuggin' armor for a Ranger or Druid (In BG2, however, Druids are sadly barred from all types of Plate, including Ankheg.)

There's a Cloak of Protection +2 in the game? Don't spoil me too much--is it hidden somewhere or do I have to slay somebody to get it?

+4 chainmail is equal to the +3 plate.

and the reason i didnt know about it is contrary to popular belief i only slaughter things that attack me first (most of the time) im intent on playing the game through and killing anything that moves but havent yet done that, im also wondering why this is the first game that the guy has approached me, he didnt in any of my previous games, dunno why.

btw bear in mind if you wear full plate on a thief dual or otherwise you need to remove it to use anything but find traps, so no backstabbin.

im pretty sure there must be at least one more full plate out there cos the guy in the bandit camp is pretty wimpy and as full plate is v.good armour id have thought some tougher opponents (ones your not meant to kill) would be wearing it, for example in baldurs gate, people like scar maybe? definately gonna have to try

Pirengle: The Cloak is hidden, not looted, and in a nifty place, too. And don't worry, it's not in one of those tiny "Ring of Wizardy" hideyholes that you need a walkthrough in order to find.

No. The number for your Base AC isn't everything; you must also take into account your type of armor's AC Modifiers. Plate armor grants bonuses against slashing and piercing weapons, IIRC, and Full Plate gives even better bonuses. That's why I said that the Plate+3 isn't as good as the Full Plate+1. Chain Mail, on the other hand, actually imposes AC penalties against Blunt weapons. I felt the full force of this (metaphorically speaking) in my last game: As a Barbarian, I couldn't wear Plate, so the best armor open to me was being worn by a certain Elf. When I got it, I had a nice decent AC, but I still lived in fear of Ogres.

I tend to slaughter people who are rude to me. (If killing them would cause a Rep loss, I tend to think up more devious ways to go about it--this might be the single biggest cause of my Naughty Boy threads. )

Mostly true, but not quite.....

so no backstabbin.
Again, not quite. Backstabbing in Full Plate is indeed possible, although extremely cheesy.

Ummm.....good luck! Me, I'll be satisfied with the regular 3 sets, thanks.
