I could go on and on and on and on and on about how idiotic this world is. *shakes head* Sometimes, I just want to get onto a local radio station, and let everyone know how incredibly stupid we are. While I share your disappointment about the apparent lack of advancement of our society these days, I have to argue your point about evolution.

The theory of evolution actually doesn't say anything about whether we've evolved to be more civilized or intelligent. It merely states that natural selection will encourage the survival of the organisms most suitable for the environment. Yes, natural selection has favored the offspring of the more intelligent humans over the past 50-100,000 years but we're now at the point that our intelligence allows us to overcome natural selection in many ways. Stupid people survive despite being apparently unable to take care of themselves or their offspring. You could say that we are driving our own evolution and that of the planet at this point. When our lack of insight finally leads to overcrowding, rampant spread of sexually transmitted diseases, global warming, and God-forbid nuclear warfare -- well lets just say that evolution may yet have something to say about our development.

For sake of academic intelligence, please everyone just remember that evolution is still only a theory and has yet to be proven. I'm personally highly skeptical of it; however, this is all off topic. We were talking about little kids caught with illegal substances, right?

At any rate, the idiocy of the parents of one or two children does not set the standard for the entirety of the human race.

And many other theories are based on faith without one iota of evidence and bugger all academic intelligence , so lets keep a REAL open mind out there everyone and yes this is very much off topic FSA

You know the saying, 'Familiarity breeds contempt'?

In sort of an unrelated roundabout way, I've seen similar desensitization concerning children and alcohol. I work with a guy, whose redneck qualities are at the 'peak' of their evolutionary perfection . Anyways, he's got a five year old and a two year old. He's building a new house, and when he finishes at the end of the day, he sits back in a lawn chair in front of the bits and pieces of what will someday be a house. While relaxing, he prefers to have a can of what he calls 'The Drink of the Gods' a.k.a. Keystone Light. That's all good and well for him, but he has his five year old run over to the cooler and fetch him beers one at a time. Besides being demeaning, he's reinforcing behaviour that associates pleasure with alcohol, in a five year old. I mean, a man( person for you P.C. snobs) should be allowed to have a drink, but it seems wrong to be employing your five y.o. to fetch it for you. Crass.
