I'm currently taking a Drow Fighter-Thief multi through BGI and since I am planning to take him through SOA and TOB, I was wandering what weapon skills I should give him when I import him into BGII. Dual wield short sword? Staff? Bastard sword and bow?
Your advice please. [ 01-29-2002: Message edited by: Dreamer128 ] |

Long sword, sword and shield style and long bow worked well for me. If you are planning on dual weilding, pick long and katanas.

Defenitly take bastard sword, it's my favourite, I'm playing as human beserker atm and I started with 3 points bastard sword and 2 points single weapon style, it extremely good. The bow thing is better for other party members I think.

Definately long sword and with lack of tank armor (plate etc) I would want a ranged weapon there is a cool long bow and some good shortbows you can get fairly easy

Are there any good longswords in Tob besides the Answerer then?

If you are evil, take the Black Razor. You will not want to put that one down. And at that point your off hand will be good enough to put the Answerer in.
There aren't any great bastard swords until you get to ToB, then there is only 1. Start with the long swords, get the best shield until you can dualweild, and then move to katanas if you want the Fury or Bastard swords if you want that one in ToB.

Well, problem is, in Baldurs gate long sword is a good oppurtunity, but in ToB long sword sucks, bastard sword ain't much around in BG but there are at least 2 superior bastard swords in ToB (which are a must) It's your call, bastard sword sucks in SoA as well, though when you get in ToB you'll regret not having any proficencies on bastard sword. Maybe the gold mid-way? short sword? They lack the special abilities but they do have +4 or +5 THACO. And then you have 2-handed swords, but I don't need to tell you all that

I would save the prof points in bastard sword until very late in the game. There are 2 good bastards that show up in ToB, but there are still lots of long swords. Even a good short sword, SS of Mask. The long is Angervandal or something, which frees you up to use the girdle of inertial barrier or whatever you like.

Dualwield Shortswords if you'd like to try something funny out...
Take Haerdallis' sword (dexterity one) and Use Any Item... Give Sword of Mask (off hand unless enemy needs big + to hit), and this is a mean character. Longsword is probably better though (Blackrazor offhand with either The Answer or Angurval in main). Berserkers are meant to use 2 handed longswords. Jorrils dagger baby! |

If you have TOB installed with SOA and start a new SOA game, you can go to Watcher's Keep and get FoeBane (+3 Bastard Sword...) or purchase the Short Sword of Mask (+4 with entangle %) or get a quiver of plenty (ever full arrows +1) and those mega healing potions all fairly early in the game.
I picked up all NPC first (Yoshi,Jahiera,Minsc,Aerie,Keldorn) then went to the tower and did the first 2 levels then coninued with main SOA game.
