It's my personal opinion that Nvidia has screwed over their customers with their coding (they're making some proprietary optimizations that aren't "covered" by DirectX). Many game developers are pretty upset over this, as they have to write new branches of code just for Nvidia. Furthermore, it has been reported that Nvidia's speed is due to "cheating;" that is, they purposely either don't draw pictures well, or leave parts of the picture out (this reduces the load the video card has to do, and can increase speed). Knowing this, and having owned products from both lines, I vote for the ATI hands down.

Bahamut ... i've tried both ATI Radeon 9600XT and Nvidia FX5700 Ultra (yeah I know you mentioned 5600). I had game compatiblity issues with ATI which I can remedy by going to the game sites and do the nessary things as suggested by the support pages. But on every game I play? Well, the card works great and looks great but my main beef is not having to deal with compatibility issues. Then I tried the FX card and no problem with compatiblity. Also, as a non-hardcore gamer, I saw no differences with picture quality though I have noticed some hiccups with the ATI versus no hiccups with Nvidia. Now that's just on my PC. It may not happen with yours. Millions of people have bought into both cards. I guess it's just test and trial is what I suggest. DO NOT send in or scatch that "get a free Half-Life 2 game" offer until you're sure that you will keep the ATI card. Just try out both, keep the receipts, and then make a decision. Good luck!

Try playing NWN on a radeon. Sure, it works, but wheres the shiny water?
No kidding? So this thread is somewhat telling me that Radeon is faster, but heck if you want a happy life go for nVidia? Heck... I think I am going for the FX but I won't keep my hopes up... either way anyway I think both cards are worth it... I'll keep you guys posted! Thanks a lot for your links they really helped!

Nvidia is the better card though. In sureys both the ATI's and their equavilant Nvidias were benchmarked and Nvidia always out on top 80% of the time with I think 3 stalemates and 2 wins for ATI.

Well I have bought it already...

A GeForce FX 5600 128 DDR TV-out VIVO.

Not too shabby... I just never had any experience with Radeons and such... and I didn't have any spare money to make it sort of a gamble to buy it.

So far I am downloading an AGP bus drive update for my MOBO... hope it doesn't screw up my whole PC... that's it and I am installing my new AGP card...

OK, this may not sem too apparent, but my experience has proven that all(ALL) cards that have 256MB of RAM today are lagging because of that. And you bought a nice card there.
