I know I can't be the only one. In life one runs into all kinds of people, many bizarre and strange LOL. I could write a book (not a huge one, but pretty decent LOL) re the ones I've met, but I'll only post two to begin:

When I first began working at the patent law office I'm at, between 1989 and 1992, I had this lady who I worked with. I guess since she had been there before me she was considered above me, so I did what she told me, but also did a lot of work on my own that the attorneys brought out. She started telling me these stories as I was sitting at my desk, about her life. I have no idea if they were real or lies, although I tend to lean on the lie side, I think she was just mental. She told me her parents were satanists, but nobody knew it and her parents were very big and respected in her home town. She said she gets flashbacks from when she was a kid, one particular one she remembers stabbing a baby. "But it wasn't me, somebody put their hand over mine holding the knife and did it." One morning she came out of the bathroom and told me there was blood all over the place in there. I checked, nothing there. She also said every night she got night terrors, so never got any sleep. Back then we had flexible hours, but she abused them by supposedly coming in at 6:00am and leaving at 1:00pm. Thing is, nobody's in the office until 9:00am, so what was she working on? She'd also leave even earlier some days for "singing lessons." Oh and one day she drove me to a Kinkos (which was not called Kinkos but a similar establishment) and I swear every time I talked she started to veer out of the lane. She could not concentrate on my words and drive at the same time. I tried it several times to test the theory LOL, and trust me she couldn't. She ate a lot also, mostly icecream from the Highs across the street, pretty much all day. One morning she lifted her skirt in front of me! to show me how she had her underwear hooked together with pins and part of a rubber band, because she outgrew them. She then said "Look how fat I am!" I truly did not know what to say, I mean what do you say in that situation?! I just ended up making some sound that I hoped sounded sympathetic and purposely dropped my pen on the ground so I had to turn around and pick it up. In the end, she got fired. She had been telling me I was typing too fast, and that my boss was saying I was making mistakes. My boss heard her, and the next day he called me in his office to tell me she was completely wrong and he was seeing no errors and to continue on, and a day after that she was fired and replaced. I was very glad LOL.

Next one, small story here.... 5 years ago when I lived in Fairfax, I'd always see this old man in the Safeway. Had really long grey hair, so stood out, and seemed to always be talking to somebody, very sociable. I ran into him one day in the shampoo aisle, I was looking and deciding what shampoo I wanted to get, and he looked at me and said "You know Palmolive is so much cheaper, and a great shampoo! It's all I have ever used, go get some Palmolive!" Was just kinda funny cause his long grey hair didn't really look all that great LOL.

PS - For those that aren't Americans, Palmolive is a dish washing liquid, the kind you use for handwashing dishes LOL.

Over here, Palmolive actually *is* a brand of shampoo as well.

Cool thread Wendy, have nothing to get even close to your stories but I just wanted to pop in and say nice thread.

Oh, I know the perfect person for this thread.

In my... sophomore year I think, we were having Health class, and while we were discussing something amongst ourselves, a very odd fellow I know went over by himself to one of the tables in the room and started coloring something. Now, eventually enough people walked by (maybe 3-4), commented and snickered for the teacher to take the hint and see for himself. This had to be embarrassing because even his dad found out, but the teacher busted him for having pornographic papers on hand, not the regular kind either, it was Hentai, pretty graphic too. His defense was, "I wasn't looking at them, I was just coloring them!"

There's another person, worked at my vocational school or still does, not quite sure, but when I was doing bookwork in my computer class, she came in and I thought I heard her mutter something around some of the other students. I just shrugged and went on typing, then eventually she came to me and muttered, "You're native american," and walked on. I turned around and looked as she left the room. Never saw her again, weird lady though.

I agree very cool thread

I can only remember one at the moment, and definetly not a good as yours Z.

In 1998 I worked in a meatpacking warehouse, I took the job because I was going to night school at the time and the hours were very convenient for the school hours (although I woke up at 7am every week day and was home at 10 pm), basicly the work involved taking orders from stores, packing the goods and send them away. One day a new guy shows up, around 40, rather big heavyset guy... a little bit balding and very quiet. He is shown around and how the job is done. Fine, me and another guy, who was a good friend of mine, just continued working but then after some time we noticed he was working really slowly... in fact it took him the same amount of time to prepare one order while we did 3. Fine he was a beginner and we thought nothing of it, then after he has been there few days my friend comes to me, rather puzzled and asked me if I had noticed the guy today... I hadn't so I took a peek, and sure enough, he was wearing a gold chain around his neck, and his shirt was un buttoned for the first 3 buttons or so... we couldn't eblieve it, he looked like a pimp
Then some time later, he came up to me and asked me, "uhmm, the cured meat, is that cured or smoked?"... I wasn't sure I had heard right, but apparantly I did... I was just stunned. Thats a questions retarded people won't even ask you.
There was lot more incidence like that, for instance he couldn't do smple arithmatic, was always asking me how much 60 plus 20 was. I have no idea how long he lasted in the job because I quit shortly after. unfortunatly I had o leave my friend behind but when ever we met he would tell me stories about him and they were just unbelievable... Wow, mine aren't as good as those. Not at all. Mine was just my math teacher who gets all worked up about math. She's seriously obsessed with it. She keeps telling us to go and rattle off equation to our parents at the dinner table. Ugh, and she gets annoyed when we're 2 seconds late because we are apparantly missing out on math when she is still talking to her favorite students. Ah, only 2 more months of this torture...

Thanks Mel, I thought it might be a fun topic, c'mon you have to have some stories of your own you could add LOL. Oh, and man Mel, you are kidding me re the Palmolive shampoo? LOL well maybe the old guy had something there then LOL! Have you ever tried it, and if so, what did you think? Am curious LOL!

There is definitely no Palmolive shampoo here in the U.S., it's only a dishwashing liquid here, in many fragrances (which sucks cause if you've ever cleaned a dirty frying pan with like, Palmolive pink flower scented one, no matter how thoroughly you clean and rinse the pan, you will get an initial armpit stench upon applying said cleaned pan to heat). Don't ask, don't know. It's an odd phenomenon LOL, but there it is. And in any rate, this old man wasn't using any Palmolive shampoo, as this was 5 years ago and again no Palmolive shampoo here in the U.S., so he was using the dishwashing bottles of it to wash his long grey locks LOL. Oh it sure does sud up well LOL, but I remember my grandmother used to wash her hair with soap and dishwashing liquid, and it tends to dry the Muck out of your hair mostly. Well in the mid 90's I lived in Calgary and I was the day time Sous Chef for a restraunt in the down town core. We had this dishwasher that worked for us he was maybe 21 or 22. He would go throught these weird cycles. For 2 weeks he would be fine. Good woker very fast and very clean. I mean you could eat off those plates Then for 2 weeks he changed to a complety different person. His worked sucked he would be slow and be very dirty. But the thing is he would come up with some of the strangest stories. One time he told me that he wanted to get a aircraft carrier and put a roller coasters and theme park rides on to it and then take it to third world countries and let the kids play on it. Do not get me wrong good idea just weird. One other thing he said is that during some war there was some politicians helg hostage in some country, do not ask me what country or war. He wanted for me and him to go and steal some F-18 planes and go and get them out. I am like yeah I can not fly planes. Also just before he left us. he was putting blank cheques into the ATM and taking out money. So I had his bank phoneing me every day and asking to talk to him But at the time he was gone and on the run. Never did see him again.

Hrm
well theres this guy in my baking class that seems to have attention deficit disorder
He says and does the strangest things all of the time. Like we visited this cool bakery and got a tour. One of the ovens in there is very special and only like 10 or something exist in the US. So he asks a bunch of asinine questions like what kind of volcanic ash is it lined with?
He also does wierd things...like we have this coffee machine that the class shares - so he puts in about a cup of sugar to his glass...and less than a cup of actual coffee, proceeds to drink it.....and actually enjoys it! then he starts talking to the walls and other inanimate objects.

Once he asked me: "Why is it that i always get stuck into classes with no one normal?" I wanted to tell him all sorts of stupid things in responce, but decided he might go psycho and so i continue to keep my mouth shut.

When I was at uni/college there were a whole lot of strange people. Probably because there were three sheltered housing units within a mile of where I lived. The most well know was the woman who walked backwards everywhere, looking over her shoulder. We called her the "backwards walking women" in a fit of originality. She was a bit of a local feature, a really happy smiley lady who everybody said hi to. Then one day she vanished. It wasn't until a few weeks later when I found out what happened to her. I saw her walking forwards and she looked as miserable as sin. I guess somebody made her do it as "treatment". Poor woman. To my mind, her walking backwards was no big issue, she was friendly and happy and bar for a probable crick in her neck, there was nothing seriously wrong with her. I guess once she started walking forwards no one recognised her any more and she "vanished", just fell off everyone's radars.. sad really.

There was also a guy who'd dress up as a viking all the time and ride around on a motorbike. He was friendly too. Up until the day his girlfriend cheated on him and he charged over to the fella's house on his bike, drunk and waving a sword. The police stepped in and arrested him.
