You mean Cyrics` beliver? He is really powerful. With 8 lvl party... too hard. You know how much dmg ADHW does on Insane,do you? He can be killed but TS so early? With Wands of X you can beat him but...

Too powerful. On the other hand,Zhivago fro, Improved Iliych mod summon Deva.

Make that summon two Fallen Devas. But given the choice of butting a low-level party against a Fallen Deva or an ADHW, I'd take the Deva every time. An ADHW on Insane simply will kill at least 1 party member, whereas the Deva can be practically ignored.

I have no problem with the way Weimer's Smarter Mages upgrades people like, say, Mekrath (he was a cinch before, and now he casts ADHW), because after all, he does guard a Rod of Resurrection, and you don't have to kill him in order to recruit Haer'Dalis. But the Priest of Cyric??? Time Stop and Horrid Wilting on Day 2 of playing the game? Whoever wrote Improved Battles needs to correct their cranial-rectal inversion and wise up to the facts:
It's generally not a good idea to write MOD scenarios that, if they were part of a Pencil & Paper game played between real people, would quickly get the Human DM thrown out of a 6th-floor window.

=/ I tried (I was a beta tester), but people kept saying that it was possible, so I believed them. On the first version, I beat it on Core with a level 8 party, but only by running away every single time he cast Time Stop. It was very frustrating (you have to be very quick) to beat him without Magic spells (you simply don't have the liscense at that time, and facing the Cowled Wizards and him and the same time just isn't cool), and you have to abuse slightly the engine.

Oh, and yes, I did have a party of Kelsey, Anomen, Keldorn, Anomen, and Archer PC. Anomen got killed, but not permanently so. He was the bait for the CC with the ADHW.

Those "%£%(%** Shadow Thieves guarding the holy water shipment in Athkatla AFTER aVenger's improved shadow thief mod goes on. It's not just their abilities - it's their strategic position. You can only get to them via a narrow walkway, and they usually have a thief there ready to hold you up while they pelt you with an incredibly dangerous array of arrows and darts. Korgan lasted, what? 10 seconds? I made the mistake of trying to lead them up the stairs into open ground, and what did I find with them? An invisible Arkanis Gath. Goddamnit, that guy can backstab olympic-style.

Nice. That's only *after* you side with a certain Vampire, right? I've never sided with them, that's why I never actually was that inspired to install Rogue Re-Balancing. As to the battle- why don't you just kill the Shadow Thief that's holding you up with ranged stuff? And detect Arkanis with a Thief using Detect Illusions?

'Cos we were all level 10 or less... and not exactly armed to the teeth. Edwin and Viconia weren't much use, for we hadn't even got our magic license at that point. It taught me not to underestimate these mods, it really did.

I got them in the end, but not by what I'd call sporting methods. When I tell you one of them was killed by Cromwell's house, and another outside Valygar's old home, you'll get the idea of how weird it got.

One more thing about Cryic`s beliver. NI says that he is level 18 but a Mage at level 18 has one level 9 spell, but he casts TS three times!

Outrageous!

Don't blame Rogue Rebalancing for this: The insanely difficult Thieves (of whom Tancred has only cracked the crust, so far) come courtesy of the Shadow Thief Improvements MOD, which was also written by aVENGER. The two may be installed separately, which is a very good thing, since Rogue Rebalancing is 98% good (It does something rather weird with the placement of the S.S. of Backstabbing) and Shadow Thief Improvements is 83% bad.

And Tancred: Get used to non-sporting methods against these a******s. Every single one of them is either a Thief/Mage, Kensai->Thief, or Fighter->Assassin. Illegal and undroppable items abound, and their stats are better than Valygar's. Speaking of Valygar, it was against these Improved Shadow Bastards that I found out just how well he works with Jan: Jan drinks an Invisiblity Potion and stands around Detecting Illusions, while a Boots-of-Speeded Valygar performs hit & run Backstabs. And one more thing, Tancred: Save your game BEFORE you enter Aran Linvail's level. Oh my GOD, Save your game.
