Me bro an I are doing his homeowrk (yes, its 10:30, this is early for us). given a huge diagram me and my bro finaly managed to derive the correct equation :

Theta/sin(Theta) = (1001*180)/(1000*PI) to be solved for theta.

Weve done it by iteration, but would prefer the exact solution. Does anyone here have a clue how to get it?

If you are familiar with the USENET, there is a 24 hour mathematical help forum there called alt.algebra.help. I'll post a link to it here...you can post your question and get expert help within a little bit. Don't expect them to give you the answer, though! They'll give very good hints as to what to do. Hope this helps you!

It has me stumped. I would've been able to do this 6 months ago but now I'm completely clueless. How did you do it by iteration out of interest? It might be that that is what they are looking for.

Barry. Iteration in this case is simple. You just play around with values of theta until the result of the LHS is close to the constant RHS. Except 4.44 gives answers close to a threshold later in the question, so i wanted a more accurate answer.

Besides, the brat hasnt been taught iteration yet and im not supposed to be helping.

Fair play then. I am still completely baffled by it. Sorry I can't be of more help, Vaskez should be able to do it if he is around.

I know, me too! Don't you hate that? I used to cane at maths, now everything I ever knew has disappeared. I can't even remember how to differentiate! Sigh. My brain is a sieve

I've forgot most of it, (except the new stuff that I am doing at A-level), but even I can remember differentiation!!! Iteration I cannot however!

Oh phooey . The last time I differentiated anything was more than 2 years ago. And then it was so scary (multi-variate, eek!) I think I've blocked it out for the trauma
