Hehe, inspired by Cerek's '80s music thread, who here likes '60s music? (Yes, I am mostly into metal, but I like other stuff too!)
I have already mentioned in the '80s thread my passion for Ska - (and yes when I dance, I do the Skank) - well of course that originated in Jamaica in the late '50s and early '60s - Prince Buster, Desmond Dekker, The Skatellites. I'm also into '60s Soul and Motown. Any others like this sort of thing?

Now we're cooking with gas! During the musically challenged 80's I spent some years as a 60's DJ in a pub. (Then known as the Three Wheatsheaves now horribly reanamed as 'The Walkabout' a theme pub for ex-colonials).
To much great music to name names but as well as Motown I loved the Atlantic and Stax labels. Wilson Picket, Otis Redding, Aretha Franklin etc.

It's all a bit before my time I'm afraid (though I realise how silly this sounds from the mouth of someone who listens to music at least a century old )... Maybe you can bring some of your favourites to the BBQ, Epona and Donut, to educate me
I do know the Specials, the Clash etc of course, from my punk period Also like The Exploited, UK Subs, and a number of others.... forgot most of the names but I still have some CDs lying around. Oh and I like this song from the Kinks, since it was covered by one of my favourite bands: the Mission. Mr Pleasant Oh Mr Pleasant, how is Mrs Pleasant? I hope the world is treating you right, And your head's in the air, And you're feeling so proud, 'Cause you're such a success, And the whole wide world is on your side, hey hey. How are you today? People say Mr Pleasant is good, Mr Pleasant is kind, Mr Pleasant's okay, Mr Pleasant don't mind. As long as Mr Pleasant's all right, hey hey. How are you today? How's your father, how's your mother? How's your sister, how's your brother? How's your brand, new limousine, Twenty-four inch TV screen? Did you like prosperity More than you liked poverty? Life is easier, so much easier, Life is easier now. Oh Mr Pleasant, how is Mrs Pleasant? Did you know she was flirting around With another young man, And he's taking her out When you have to work late? And it's not so pleasant after all, hey hey. How are you today? People say Mr Pleasant is good, Mr Pleasant is kind, Mr Pleasant's okay, Mr Pleasant don't mind. As long as Mr Pleasant's all right, hey hey. How are you today? Mr Pleasant is good, Mr Pleasant is kind, Mr Pleasant's okay.

Skywalker, good taste there! The Kinks are among my favourite bands actually
Melusine, I don't have too much on CD sadly (lack of cash) but I will certainly bring a selection of music, I never travel without my discman! I hope no-one minds me posting tons of lyrics! Another few by The Kinks: Plastic Man A man lives at the corner of the street, And his neighbors think he's helpful and he's sweet, 'Cause he never swears and he always shakes you by the hand, But no one knows he really is a plastic man. He's got plastic heart, plastic teeth and toes, (Yeah, he's plastic man) He's got plastic knees and a perfect plastic nose. (Yeah, he's plastic man) He's got plastic lips that hide his plastic teeth and gums, And plastic legs that reach up to his plastic bum. (Plastic bum) Plastic man got no brain, Plastic man don't feel no pain, Plastic people look the same, Yeah, yeah, yeah. Kick his shin or tread on his face, Pull his nose all over the place, He can't disfigure, or disgrace, Plastic man (plastic man). He's got plastic flowers growing up the walls, He eats plastic food with a plastic knife and fork, He likes plastic cups and saucers 'cause they never break, And he likes to lick his gravy off a plastic plate. Plastic man got no brain, Plastic man don't feel no pain, Plastic people look the same, Yeah, yeah, yeah. Kick his shin or tread on his face, Pull his nose all over the place, He can't disfigure, or disgrace, Plastic man (plastic man). He's got a plastic wife who wears a plastic mac, (Yeah, he's plastic man) And his children wanna be plastic like their dad, (Yeah, he's plastic man) He's got a phony smile that makes you think he understands, But no one ever gets the truth from plastic man (plastic man) Plastic man (plastic man). __________________________________________ Waterloo Sunset Dirty old river, must you keep rolling Flowing into the night People so busy, makes me feel dizzy Taxi light shines so bright But I don't need no friends As long as I gaze on Waterloo sunset I am in paradise Every day I look at the world from my window But chilly, chilly is the evening time Waterloo sunset's fine Terry meets Julie, Waterloo Station Every Friday night But I am so lazy, don't want to wander I stay at home at night But I don't feel afraid As long as I gaze on Waterloo sunset I am in paradise Every day I look at the world from my window But chilly, chilly is the evening time Waterloo sunset's fine Millions of people swarming like flies 'round Waterloo underground But Terry and Julie cross over the river Where they feel safe and sound And the don't need no friends As long as they gaze on Waterloo sunset They are in paradise Waterloo sunset's fine _________________________ Dead End Street There's a crack up in the ceiling, And the kitchen sink is leaking. Out of work and got no money, A Sunday joint of bread and honey. What are we living for? Two-roomed apartment on the second floor. No money coming in, The rent collector's knocking, trying to get in. We are strictly second class, We don't understand, (Dead end!) Why we should be on dead end street. (Dead end!) People are living on dead end street. (Dead end!) Gonna die on dead end street. Dead end street (yeah) Dead end street (yeah) On a cold and frosty morning, Wipe my eyes and stop me yawning. And my feet are nearly frozen, Boil the tea and put some toast on. What are we living for? Two-roomed apartment on the second floor. No chance to emigrate, I'm deep in debt and now it's much too late. We both want to work so hard, We can't get the chance, (Dead end!) People live on dead end street. (Dead end!) People are dying on dead end street. (Dead end!) Gonna die on dead end street.

Oooh! A Kink's lyric thread.
I met her in a club down in old Soho where they drink champagne and it tastes just like cherry cola C-O-L-A cola she walked up to me and she asked me to dance I asked her her name and in a dark brown voice she said Lola L-O-L-A Lola Lo lo lo lo Lo - la Well I'm not the world's most physical guy But when she sqeezed me tight she nearly broke my spine Oh my Lola la-la-la-la Lola Well I'm not dumb but I can't understand Why she walked like a woman but talked like a man Oh my Lola la-la-la-la Lola la-la-la-la Lola Well, we drank champagne and danced all night Under electric candle light She picked me up and sat me on her knee and said "dear boy won't you come home with me?" Well, I'm not the world's most passionate guy, but when I looked in her eyes, well I almost fell for my Lola Lo lo lo lo Lo - la Lo lo lo lo Lo - la Lola Lo lo lo lo Lo - la Lo lo lo lo Lo - la I pushed her away I walked to the door I fell to the floor I got down on my knees Then I looked at her and she at me Well that's the way that I want it to stay And I always want it to be that way for my Lola La-la-la-la Lola Girl will be boys and boys will be girls It's a mixed up muddled up shook up world except for Lola La-la-la-la Lola CHORUS #2: Well I left home just a week before And I'd never ever kissed a woman before But Lola smiled and took me by the hand And said "Dear boy, I'm gonna make you a man" Well I'm not the world's most masculine man But I know what I am and I'm glad that I'm a man And so is Lola La-la-la-la Lola la-la-la-la Lola Lola la-la-la-la Lola la-la-la-la Lola

Donut, I love that one! Thank you, I am certainly OK about this becoming a 'Kinks lyrics' thread!
Dedicated Follower Of Fashion They seek him here, they seek him there, His clothes are loud, but never square. It will make or break him so he's got to buy the best, 'Cause he's a dedicated follower of fashion. And when he does his little rounds, 'Round the boutiques of London Town, Eagerly pursuing all the latest fads and trends, 'Cause he's a dedicated follower of fashion. Oh yes he is (oh yes he is), oh yes he is (oh yes he is). He thinks he is a flower to be looked at, And when he pulls his frilly nylon panties right up tight, He feels a dedicated follower of fashion. Oh yes he is (oh yes he is), oh yes he is (oh yes he is). There's one thing that he loves and that is flattery. One week he's in polka-dots, the next week he is in stripes. 'Cause he's a dedicated follower of fashion. They seek him here, they seek him there, In Regent Street and Leicester Square. Everywhere the Carnabetian army marches on, Each one an dedicated follower of fashion. Oh yes he is (oh yes he is), oh yes he is (oh yes he is). His world is built 'round discoteques and parties. This pleasure-seeking individual always looks his best 'Cause he's a dedicated follower of fashion. Oh yes he is (oh yes he is), oh yes he is (oh yes he is). He flits from shop to shop just like a butterfly. In matters of the cloth he is as fickle as can be, 'Cause he's a dedicated follower of fashion. He's a dedicated follower of fashion. He's a dedicated follower of fashion.

How can you mention the '60's WITHOUT mentioning the Beatles
John Lennon and Paul McCartney were the GREATEST songwriters of all time (more #1 hits than any other person or group -- ever). I also like a lot of Motown, CCR, and similar styles. (didn't care for the Doors or Bob Dylan though). Until the '80's came along, my favorite era was the '50's. Like Melusine said, it was before my time, but I still like the music from that decade.
