It's simple, he cut his way through the can opening and pulled it up. Don't ask me what he used to do this, but I guarentee it's not too hard to do.

Or he could have just heated the can up somehow. I actually had a can of coke do something that ended up looking like that once after sitting in my car for a long time durring the middle of the summer.
