IMO, WinME is not much of an improvement over 98SE. Plus, it is bloated and used up more RAM. You either go with 98SE or WinXP.

For compatibility with all those older games, 98SE is the obvious choice.

Otherwise, upgrade it to XP. Since it is still quite "new", M$ will continue to support it for years to come, even after they launched longhorn or whatever blows old Bill's horn.

I personally have XP pro. And I agree with many of my friends that ME was microsofts last minute grab at your wallets before they put out XP.

Windows ME is just another way of saying "The Blue Screen of Death." Go with XP.

I found that if you've got a lower level of RAM than 256, XP tends to lag big time. I was trying to run WCIII of a 600MHz, 192 (i think) MB RAM pc, and it would just choke the whole system up. Regrettably, I switched to 98, and my games started working fine again. I miss XP tho

I didn't find that at all. We ran XP for probably 1 year before upgrading to 256 from 128 and had no speed or performance issues. I also agree with Thoran that unless you're networking or such, there's no need to use Pro instead of Home. Pro is much more expensive and no better for a home computer (probably why it's called 'Home' ).

Keep this thought in mind. I just wonder if this will be your thought about XP in a couple when "Longhorn" blows in. For Win XP is only an enhanced code, without DOS direct support. WinMe was the first attempt at a GUI without direct DOS to the "Normal" user.
