I'm Youtube ignorant, so I just watched the above.
Can you post a link for the high quality version. The friend I'm playing DnD with tonight would love to see this. EDit: oh, that was amazing BTW!

Re: Modern Samurai [Video] - Wow...
Amazing! Thanks for posting it.
Last Fall it was either military or history channel aired a program which had one of the last masters featured wherein he displayed talent and skill of sword, and production. Three things that I have kept from that program include: 1. The hilt of a real Katana is made from cured sting ray skin. (Prevents the warrior from losing his grip). 2. The blade is of pure quality steel (smelted from black sand) and is folded in a Damascus style tradition, except 1,000 times. (European armor was no match for the blade). 3. The frosting of the spine is achieved by placing a clay infused lava rock ash over the broad during the tempering process (replica's are etched). This insulated the broad and allowed only the cutting edge to temper, further enhancing the Damascus fold design mark and creating that unique frosted blade appearance. When the time comes to collect the lottery pay out, part of my share will be set aside for an authentic Okayama Castle blade.

Then you would also know from that documentary that you need to "qualify" to get such a blade.
