They are but all fighters' thacos reduce by 1 each level anyway.

The best level to dual class a kensai thief (you're better off playing a straight fighter/thief because you can wear armour and use bracers, a shield and a bow which is useful if you're playing a thief class) is 12th level.

There is absolutely no point going up to 13th because the benefit gained from the one level is minimal and you hold up the period of time before you regain your fighter abilities.

If you are just playing SOA dual class at 9th.

Actually if you dislike a kensai for a thief then I would recommend a berserker not a fighter. I really can't see a reason to go fighter unless you want to specialize a distance weapon. Anyhow if you play on to ToB your kensai/thief COULD wear armor later.

Yup, I was wrong about the combat bonuses

Well I used SK to go through a level up and here is what I got:

Level: 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15
THAC0: 9 8 6 5 4 2 1 0 -2
#Attacks: 3/2 3/2 3/2 3/2 3/2 3/2 2 2 2
HPoints: 64 75 89 92 95 98 101 104 107
Prof.Points: 6 - +1 - - +1 - - +1

Saving throws: # +2 +1 +2

The values were taken as follows:
The char. wasn't equiped w/ anything
THACO value is the adjusted max value w/ the +3 str.(18/00) bonus and the ALL of the Kensai bonuses factored in.

I think that the 250,000 for the extra attack is worth it, paticularly when dual-wielding. The Attacks at 12 and below go like this round 1 = 2 attacks, round 2 = 1 attack vs. 13 level round 1 = 2 attacks, round 2 = 2 attacks. This extra attack could be the difference between killing a creature B4 being hit or sustaining damage from being hit.

Ugg, the thing got reformated.

Those saving throw bonuses come in at 9th, 11th, & 13th. You should be able to fig. out the rest.

I have TOB installed but dualled my kensai to mage at level 10 during my second run through SoA.

Besides the level 10 spells to be added into spellbook, I plan to gain as much "additional 6th/7th/8th level spell" as possible with all the remaining experience levels.

Don't tell me I made a wrong move

Dualing at level 10 didnt gain you any real benefits other than thaco, but didnt really hurt you either. It'll just take you a bit longer to get your mage to 11th level when he/she will be able to use both class abilities.

Thanks. Any opinion on which level is better - 9 vs 12/13? I'm trying to weigh the additional spells against the better fighting abilities. Read somewhere that in TOB, mages don't get much chance to fight anyway (busy lowering magic resistance and breaching, etc.). So is there really much benefit delaying the dualling level if you're not going to be fighting that much later on?

I did it at 9, then was up to level 12 mage. Then computer crash so never got to complete it. It was an awesome combo though. But ToB drasticlly raises the exp cap so 12 might be a good option. However if you did it at 10 its really no big deal, you miss out on a slightly lower thaco and 1 proficiency slot. You'll need plenty of breeches-type spells coming up, and everyone loves a good fireball eh?
