Anyhow, when I installed the upgrade, it asked it I wanted to save the old Win98 on the hard drive so that ME could be uninstalled at a future date. Going against my first instinct, I clicked "YES."

What the hell do I do now??? I wanna KILL somethin'!!!

OK, did you "yes" save win 98, or "yes" proceed without saving 98 files?

I am (relatively) certain I pressed the save option. How do I find out for sure? Do not be afraid to speak to me as though I'm a complete dope... you cannot insult the intelligence of a complete technodope.

Also, if there are detailed instructions, rather than wasting board space, you may email me at IdiotRogue@yahoo.com or GeoLyn@prodigy.net.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Just be sure to use itty bitty words...

Open the Add/Remove Programs control panel and select Uninstall Windows Millennium. If you can't uninstall Windows Me, you may have to perform a clean installation of your original OS using the CD from the version of Windows previous to the one you want to restore. For example, if you're performing a clean installation of Windows 98, you'll need a Windows 95 CD to prove that you're doing an upgrade, not a new installation.

Well, I have the Win98 CD I got with my barebones system a few years back but no Win95 stuff. Left that at the exgirlfriend's as my original computer was Win95 upgraded to 98.

Now what?

did you check the Add/Remove Control Panel?
It should have an Uninstall Windows Millenium option.

We may need the 95 CD if it's not there...

Besides the obvious (uninstall WinME), what's next?

No rush, I'm putting on a pot of coffee, running out to Wal-Mart for cigarettes, Wheaties, OJ and some bullets in case this thing goes badly.

Cool story you're posting, by the way. Makes me want to get back into writing myself. Have only had a few things published in the school magazine a lifetime ago...

Back in a bit. Need anything?

Work is just starting...

After you unistall ME, install 98...
multiple reboots...

go to Add / Remove Hardware Control Panel, check if any icons have an "X" over them.
install any hardware drivers needed...
reinstall any software that is still acting screwy...
and, that should cover it...

yeah, grab me some sleeping pills, or something...
you can email me if needed. Hit the icon above my post...

Thanks so much. I'll email if I have problems or to let you know things worked out. This morning you have gained "Memnoch Status" in my eyes.

Where do you start work at 3:00am? Hospital?
