Been chatting with a few of my friends via AIM and mysteriously they send the message XXXXXXXX: -http://grandmasterdesigners.com/gallery.php- MINE!!
minus the '-' marks. the link leads to a download which I opted not to go through with. just wondering if anyone has encountered this. It's happened with two of my friends so far.

This is a common type of IM virus. You probably have it now even though you didn't DL the file. IIRC through MSN it would spread simply by receiving the chat message which is usually spam of some shape or form with hopes to infect you further or get you to download a dialer. Scan everything and get your mates to do so too. But yeah, these been around for years now.

Hmm... that explains why my friend told me they started receiving the same thing from me.

Very odd. They also mentioned that it stopped happening today. Some kind of time activated/deactivated virus? Well, I'll have to locate some kind of free virus detection program. I don't use my McAfee anymore, it screws up my other programs big time.

Same here, I hate Mc. Use the Norton website for a free full scan if you're stuck.
