I dislike violence in any form, not least of which because I am adept at it myself. I know full well the importance of discipline and control

On the other side of the fence, however, the priest was stupid, arrogant and downright disrespectful.

I will not say that he deserved the beating (nobody does) but maybe he will learn from his experience

Unfortunately, the truth hurts. And some people (like the beaters) are not grown-up enough to handle it.

Beating a person up is against the law and the police involved are not doing their job.

I'd hate to think that a beating is the proper response for unkind words directed at another.

Buncha savages, with no respect for a preacher!

Yep. 2 wrongs don't make a right.

He preacher should not have said what he did. The mourners should not have beaten him up. One was a stupid, tactless and insensative action, the other barbaric, brutal, and cruel.

he sounds like he deserves no respect.if the preacher was stupid enough to do something like that,he deserved it.he can also look forward to being sued.

Preachers should not be given any respect just because of their station. They should earn it like everyone else.

That may be so, but regardless of respect, beating someone up is usually a schoolyard thing that gets you suspended. In the real world it should get you fined, in prison (possibly) and a criminal record.

Those people should join the human race, I think.

Gotta say I agree with this. Violence is not the answer and in most cases is just more problem to deal with. I don't know about you, Caleb, but it's my practice to show respect for priests/pastors and other people UNTIL or UNLESS I am shown reason not to.

And frankly this pastor was out of line, but hardly merits being physically assualted for voicing his view undiplomatically or at the wrong time. There have been posters on IW who've said offensive things either on purpose or totally unwittingly yet I'd not advocate we track them down and wail on them with clubs and bats. Sheesh.
