I have decided, but I do wish there were a worthy third-party alternative...

Well, found this on a link, from the latest poll of non-US respondents. Looks like the majority of the 'western' nations want Obama, not McCain.

Quote:
The poll, conducted by papers including France's Le Monde, Japan's Yomiuri Shimbun, Canada's La Presse and Mexico's Reforma, also shows that opinion of America has dropped sharply since the start of the decade. In France 75% say their view of the US has got worse or much worse since President George Bush replaced Bill Clinton in 2001; in Canada 77%; in Switzerland 86% and in Japan 62%.
People everywhere have turned to Obama. He would win by a simple majority in six of the eight countries surveyed, including Canada, where he leads McCain by 70%-14%, and Japan, where the margin is 61%-13%.
French voters are even more hostile to the Republican candidate, who gets the backing of only 5%, against 68% who hope Obama will win.
In British results, from ICM/Guardian polling, 67% of voters say their opinion of the US is worse than it was before the Bush presidency began. Only 21% say it has improved.
But the special relationship endures. People in Britain are more likely than in any of the other seven countries surveyed to say relations are friendly: 49% think this is the case, against 18% who say relations are tense and 30% who say they are neutral.

Oh yeah, I know who I'm voting for.

As some have said, no brainer.

Good call, this's a lot of palaver over voting for the best of the worst possible options.

Well, the election date is set every four years in Nov. Unfortunately they give the candidates way too much time to play in the muck before then.

I have not decided on who to vote for yet, but I'm working on it. The sad thing is, I personally feel that neither person will matter all that much and I think we're in for more trouble down the road so whoever wins will end up losing during office because all of the trouble that is current and waiting to come will be blamed on whoever is in office. Obama will win and we'll say that the Democrats never delivered on their promise of something different and they'll say that there was so much trouble already existent that it'll take 8 years, not 4 to clean it up. If the Republicans win, the Dems will say that McCain is more like Bush than he cares to admit.

I just don't know how much it will matter, because the President can make a lot of suggestions but he's not the only one in power that gets to make calls, and big businesses have so much control over decisions to be made.

I think we're screwed either way. It'll just come down to who gets blamed for it.

Indeed. That's going to be the same everywhere.

In terms of time for campaigning though, here in the UK there is a legal requirement of notice for a General Election, whereby the Prime Minister must give a minimum of 3 weeks and a maximum of 6 weeks notice.

I realise that informally it tends to be longer, simply because the moment rumours start it is easy to see the political bickering and shoving for position. Not to mention the posturing - sorry, 'informal political party broadcasts' - that appear on tv and the internet for several weeks beforehand.
