ooc- is it still nighttime? lol.. maybe we should relocate the game to alaska

ic-

Aikia/Suki

Suki merrily followed after the spastic hume at a safe distance. He dashed ahead, clutching some flimsy cloth about him; meanwhile the sugar-glider scurried along in the shadows, curiousity aroused as always.

‘Run, run, Aine, or hume catch it’s prey,’ she burbled, enjoying this new game.

Aikia was still crouched against the wall, halfway up the stairs. Willing her heart to slow, she listened to the frantic footfalls chasing after her. It paused before reaching the stairs; taking advantage of the situation the slight girl slowly began easing herself up the remaining steps. Back still pressed against the splintering wall she pulled herself up by her hands, trying to remain in a half-crouch.

Hearing the footfalls continue at a slower, more determined pace, Aikia drew her legs up and pressed tighter against the steps and wall, trying to appear as small as possible – maybe her pursuer would not see her, sitting crouched in the shadows? Her right ear was pressed against the rough wood; soft breaths from her mouth stirred dust motes floating lazily in the air.

Too far away from Her door and too far from the bottom of the stairs to escape without notice, the delicate creature remained still; her dusky gray eyes peered out of her china-doll face, down at the foot of the steps. Waiting.

ooc- hope this is alright. nowhere quite as exciting as what the other fellas are doing, but it's something ^^

For those in the prison:

Telryn's blow caught the ex-captain by surprise, but even so his reflexes and the fighting skill, which had made him a captain showed and an impulsive thrust of his sword caught Telryn on the right side of his chest, piercing skin tissue, but luckily getting caught on a rib. Still, the sliding motion of the sword, pulled by the ex-captain's falling body opened a long gash down to Telryn's right hand side.

Telryn's reflexes also showed their sharpness and he managed a slash against his opponent's left foot. The wound however was far from fatal.

A few feet behind them, the warden seemed to be having trouble reloading his crossbow.

Ydalon

Just out of sight of the stairway, the footfalls halted once more as the boy took an unlit torch from the wall. He'd no desire to turn the corner only to be shot by any missile weapons the spy might carry, nor to end up clobbered or run through. A moment's distraction would make all the difference in a potential ambusher's aim, and it was fortunate for him that distraction was something he could provide.
He pulled his arm back, then threw.

Something spun through the air where Aikia sat looking, but it was the dull bang of its impact on the far wall that would truely draw attention. A wide-eyed face appeared around the corner not a second after, making certain the stairs were safe.
Then the rest of Ydalon stepped into view, and he strode half-way up the stairs to where she sat crouched, arms folded in front of him. He recognised Isokla's contact from their previous encounter, and did not seem pleased.

"Did she order you to do that, or is it your own agenda? How long have you been watching?" he demanded.

For those (unfortunate to be) in the prison

As the sword sliced from his chest to his waist Telryn yelled in agony. The pain seared up and down his right hand side as the air met with his open wound. The ex-captain certainly had the fighting prowess to fit his title; that was for sure. At the moment he lay dazed on the ground, sword raised in a defensive manner.
Telryn seized the moment, striking just above the handle of the ex-captains sword with his blade.

Even though he was dazed and slightly wounded, the former captain of the guard still had enough strength in his hand to hold his sword against Telryn's blow. A deep sigh from him as he did so, was evidence that his fall might not have only mildly knocked him about.

Inside, Telryn felt disappointed. He did not want it to come to this. The strength left inside the Captain meant that only one thing could be done.
He swung again, his time aiming slightly lower...

Telryn's blow struck true, severing the sword hand of the guard captain clean off. Blood spurted from the horrible wound, spraying Telryn's chest and his face. Still, all through it the former captain of the guard gritted his teeth and did not utter a sound.

It was then that the warden finally got the crossbow operational again and fired off a shot. The third time his aim finally struck true, and hit Telryn in the left shoulder, burying itself about an inch deep.

Jason look shot to the door as he heard a yell from outside. He looked to the old man sittin next to him, but he showed no sign of wanting to move, jason arched an eyebrow at him but held his tongue. What was he thinking? He hated being in that cell, but yet the man waited patiently, as if he had all the time in the world.

Excuse me, but what exactly is your plan? To wait until they're all dead? What good will that do us? I dont know about you but they may very well consider me dangerous, i dont really think that if they are wounded, bleeding near death, that they are going to want to open that damn door and say, "oh, sorry to keep you waiting, you may go now."

he gave the man a questioning look and turned his head to the door, he thought about trying to knock it down again, this time using the old man instead of his foot, but two murders in less than a week would most likely get him taken to the gallows.

Detheriel

Detheriel couldn't help but flinch at the dull thud of metal striking bone. He watched horrified, almost in slow motion, as he saw Telryn reel backwards with a bolt sticking from his chest whilst the Captain's blood spurted crimson across the scene, keeping a grisly rhythm with his pulse.

It was the smile of triumph on the face of the crossbowman that probably made him snap. With a cry of hate, he tried to charge the man, moving unsteadily on the now slippery floor.

He looked frantically around for a weapon and quickly lunged for the Captain's sword that now lay on the ground beside him. Clumsily holding it in front of him with both hands he threw himself on the crossbowman, hoping it would connect with something.

The sword was almost immediately wrenched from his grasp (although whether this had struck a body or the floor Detheriel could not tell) as they both collapsed onto the floor. Having the advantage of being on top, Detheriel resorted to trying to beat his opponent into submission, wildly swinging blows at the soldier's head in an attempt to finish it before he could fight back effectively.

For those still fighting in the prison

As suddenly as it had started it was over. The warden was beaten senseless by Detheriel, laying unconscious, his face and chest badly bruised and beaten. The ex-captain lay next to a wall, clutching the stump of his arm, a large pool of blood already gathering under him. Finally coming to his senses from the shock, the lord's bodyguard went to check the prone body.

"He's dead...probably bled to death," he announced after checking for a pulse and not finding anything.

It seemed that Telryn and Detheriel had won a victory. Seeing Telryn's injuries, the price had been high.

Footsteps approached along the corridor and the new guard captain came back. His eyes widened in shock as he saw the carnage all around. By a glance he confirmed that his father was safe and that the only visible casualties were the warden and the ex-captain.

Behind the new captain, his two men carried a prone figure.

If Telryn thought that he was badly off, then the sight of Nivram made him immediately forget his own injuries. Nivram was naked, his face almost unrecognizable. Half of his hair was missing and the rest was caked in half-dried blood. As he gave a half-hearted smile upon seeing his companions it was visible that he was missing several of his teeth.

His torso was one tangle of cuts and burns. His left arm was badly twisted and quite probably broken. His right hand looked as though it had been crushed and several fingers seemed to be broken. His legs and toes weren't off better.

Finally mastering his own fear and realising that the danger had passed, Lord Gardon assumed a very concerned expression, far from what one would expect from the Lord of a town.

"Captain, dispose of the warden. I do not want him to see a trial, the events that passed here do not need to be made public. I hope you agree," he said, glancing with pleading eyes at Telryn and Detheriel. It was obvious that he did not want this mess known to the inhabitants of the town. "Any help that you need you shall get. Any bodily wounds that you have, any injuries you have sustained, I shall see to it that they are immediately healed at the temple, free of charge of course. I am also willing to extend the hospitality of my own home to the three of you, to stay as long as you wish in order to help your recovery." Almost as an afterthought, he added: "I sincerely hope that the actions of the now-deceased former captain won't paint a bad picture of our otherwise peaceful town for you."

The new captain, dagger in his hand stepped next to the warden and glanced at Detheriel, who was still standing above him, his fists bloody and hurting from all the blows he had delivered. He knelt next to the warden and placed his dagger on the man's neck, looking to the Lord for confirmation.

Telryn

Telryn had seen some injuries in his time, but what the warden and ex-captain had done to Nivram was stomach turning. And whilst his injuries paled in comparisons to his tortured companions', the piercing pain in his upper torso reminded him instantly of the bolt still lodged in his left shoulder.

"Prior to this little incident, your town was nothing but peaceful, m'lord. I think it would be best if we got seen to first..."

Letting out a grunt of annoyance he raised his hand, trying to get a hold of the bolt...

Ydalon

Bleary-eyed he made his way through the streets of Talryr, the laden sling its familiar heavy weight over his shoulder. Elsewhere the men were waiting for the sun's first rising rays to shine in through barred windows, but all he knew was they had not found the inn after dropping off the bandit. It was another dent in his faith, and one he could not use after what happened the previous night. The boy scratched, trying to relieve the constant demand of the fleas' labours even as he reached his first stop of the day.
Trying to match wits in the early morning, against a man who had slept a longer, more restful sleep than he, was perhaps not the wisest course of action. But he needed to lose some weight, and the way things were looking he would be even more a fool to linger around town until he could fetch the best possible prices.

His eye had fallen on the trinket the minute he spotted the store, but Ydalon knew enough to mask his desire. Instead, he squared his shoulders, set a silver ewer down on the table, and began bartering. He would sell the daggers someplace finer... though thinking back on his encounters with Isokla and her new-found companion, he could think of more pleasing locations to slip them.

*****

It was just as well that Ydalon was young, and thereby quick to forget and forgive, for the dashing lad with the wealthy parents had paid well for the ornate pair of daggers, a far more worthwile sale than that of the ewer, though he'd won a new mirror in that exchange. Once, Ydalon'd had a fine big mirror, but it had crumbled with time and now even the final big shard was lost.
If he could guess at what happened to it, he might have gone looking, but he wasn't about to make yesterday's journey all over again. Today, he would get his equipment back in order, take Isokla to the wizard's tower, and see what could be salvaged of the mission.
Hardship and confusion. The boy strode onward, and broke into a grin.

Night turned to dawn and dawn turned to day

The grey before the morn, touched first rays of light turned brilliant crimson and then golden as the sun began to rise. Clouds of white speckled the sky, a touch of dark promising rain later, but for now, all was calm. All was quiet; all was still. Everything was at peace…

…And then the sound of rock striking rock shattered the morn. Anyone in the town, no matter who they were, nor where they were could escape it. Tremors echoed through the very foundations and buildings shook. Shaken, not fallen, the structures remained…

Every structure except for the temple.

The temple was dedicated to ‘Him’, the ‘Master’; the one who would return.

The temple was shattered.

A tail of smoke trailed through the skies, across the morning dawn. The stone that held the building together had melted, as though someone had cut through it with the hottest of knives. In the very heart of the temple, as rudely awoken onlookers gathered, a rock, the size of one’s palm lay. Glowing white, the heat it radiated kept all at bay.

“A sign!” an onlooker cried, “A sign that He is returning!”
“No! We are being punished!”
“Fool! The signs are clear! A fallen star can mean but one thing!”
“It means we are doomed!”
“We must turn to the Lords of Vision! Only they can save us now!”
“No! We must prepare the sacrifice! Prepare the sacrifice for the master!”
“Sacrifice! Sacrifice! Sacrifice!”

The chant rose up.

The stone-star still smouldered. It was only the first of many rocks to fall. Fifteen more struck; each one no bigger than a pebble.

~~~
In the Inn, Isokla woke abruptly and the loud vibrations did not help her mood. Ire would rule her this morning. After sighing, she rose, bathed her face and dressed.
She went looking for Aikia. ‘That girl had better not have run off somewhere… I’m in no mood to mind children. Where is Ydalon? This had better not be what I think it is… why is it so much to ask for one night of unbroken rest, just one? If it isn’t bandits, I don’t know what it is…’
