Greatest musician of the 20th century? If not greatest, then most influential? Yes? No?

I don't even like Elvis myself, but yeah I've gotta agree he is the most influential individual musician of the 20th century. Not the single greatest though, that accolade belongs to Ray Charles in my opinion.

not the greatest, since the generic term "musician" covers every genre. pretty good tho in his sphere.

i'd give john lennon the most influential rock musician award. he wrote, played and sang songs that influenced generations.

Whenever I think of John Lennon, I think of The Beatles and the impact they had on every aspect and genre of music. I think it was a culmination of each member's talents that contributed to the success and lasting influence of the band. John Lennon was able to build upon what The Beatles had accomplished and done, but they as a group were the true trend setters. So although I think John Lennon was an amazing musician, he is not the most influential rock musician in my eyes. The Beatles on a whole, were the most influential musicians in the 20th Century.

Edit- Thanks Larry.

Degrader, great idea for a discussion.

What about Barry White in his prime?

Luciano Pavarotti and his barrel of wine could certainly give him a run for his money too!

[Good to see you again Johnny ]
