That's too bad, Cerek. I know it happens sometimes that a few people abuse the system and they clamp down on everyone, but it really does seem unfair to the ones who are getting their work done and not abusing the internet access.

Well, hopefully we'll still see you, just at different times. Assuming you don't fall asleep as soon as the last little one is in bed!

It hasn't happened to me yet, but it is happening more and more, and my turn is coming.

I imagine in the next 10 years everyone without an Admin account will be locked out of anything but work related sites during working hours.

It sucks that the people who need porn during the day, and those who ignore their work responsibilities will curtail the mild internet usage of those who are getting the job done well and using the internet for a G rated break.

It sucks, but we can't say it hasn't been expected. Just like drunk drivers raise our insurance rates, and shoplifters boost the cost of merchandise, the days of internet freedom at work are doomed...

...doomed I SAY.

As I said before, I'll still be around. I'm not gonna just disappear. But my time on the PC will be more restricted simply because I just don't have as much time at home as I do at work - and my wife gets upset if she feels I'm spending too much time on the PC.

As for the statements about the company not being able to block what I do on MY time - the answer is simply "YES, they CAN!" because it is THEIR computer - not mine. And while discussion forums may be "harmless", if an exception is made for them, then others will demand that exceptions be made for ebay and amazon and this site and that site and soon we're right back where we started.

In my experience, discussion forums DO cause my productivity to "go down" - because I might get interested in a long thread (such as the Gun Ban thread currently going on in C.E.) or I may end up spending 30 minutes or more just working on one, detailed response (and sometimes I end up doing both).

So I actually support Administrations decision. I'll often browse the forum and think I've only spent a few minutes here - only to look at the clock and find out it's been 30 minutes or more. If I do that even twice in one day - that's an entire hour I've spent playing instead of working. So the time can add up quickly.

Besides, this decision hasn't been implemented yet. I've known it was coming for a month or so and my boss told me today it was going to happen in about 2 weeks - but I'll wait to see if it really happens that quickly or not.

In the meantime, I will be restricting my internet time myself so that I won't be affected so much if and when it actually does go into effect.

Admit it Cerek, you didnt notice that they had restricted internet access until you tried to login to a Tribes server

On a serious note: Its too bad when people have to suffer because of the stupidity of others.

Just not as big as EF's, I hear.
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! You're quite right, Attalus, EF does have a bigger axe than I. And I feel it is NO coincidence, since he was the one that made my original "Barbaric" sig for me. I believe he gave me that smaller axe on purpose.

Timber - Fear not, my friend. As you may have already seen in the Gun Ban thread, I still have my axe ready and waiting to be wielded when needed.

Lord K. - Thank you very much for the kind words. I'm very flattered. Still, my sig picture alone should have been evidence enough that it was myself. The likelihood of two "Cerek"s on one board is very small (especially with the same spelling), but the likelihood of two "Cerek"s with the same sig picture would have to be nigh impossible. Still, I appreciate you asking just to make sure.

Ah Cerek,
it's not so bad. I'm on the DOD server until I leave late NOV, I can access this board, and my web-based e-mail and all .mil links. But there is a stupidly thin line between reality and common sense. It's a well publicized fact the the stuff you mention above, and Gov't contorlled access go hand to mouth!
But some legitimate links, and sites are banned because one could possibly learn sumpin from it? Ah heck, it's not that bad.

Music not only brings all that with it, but it's horrendus on band width, to include internet radio. That's why you will be blocked for a lot of entertainment sites, because of high band width audio/video files.

Good Luck
