One more thing, before I totally spam this place:

The only real harmful effect of weed, (apart from the tar/smoke inhalation effect) is that it does effect your stability. It gives off the effect of being drunk, for those who have never tried it, but with a more happy, let go of it all kinda way. Also, there is no spewing at the end!!

So you face the same risks as if you were drunk, so you need to make sure you dnt go dancing on a main road or nothing!

I think it should not be legalised. Decriminalised perhaps, but not legalised.
Cigarettes are as bad as pot, if not worse.
Fact for the day: If you smoke more than one joint a month, your brain starts to get slow.

Now to the question:

Should hasch/marijuana be legalized?
Both to grow, use and sell?
I know it is in some countries but in most it's still illegal..
And it's not that more dangerous than alcohol or cigarettes really, it can be a very effective stress-killer, instead of taking alot of poisonous pills..
The down-side is of course that it might lead you on to heavier stuff, but so can alcohol and cigarettes..
I can't really think of a down-side to it..
Apart from the occasional psycosis, but that's quite rare really..
And that you get bad lungs, of course..but again, you can get that from smoking cigarettes..
What's your opinion?

All I will say is: Alcohol has killed MORE people in 1 year, than Pot has in 15 years.. I personally don't smoke it, but for Cancer, YES, it would help out.

The harder drugs as Cocaine, Heroin and stuff.. no, keep those locked up..

Legalize it? No, thanks. That would just give more people the oppurtunity to do it, which in turn would make my friends pester me to do it with them. Seriously though, mariuana does slow down nearly every aspect of your brain, and that's really the only good reason I see for not legalizing it.

Let's compare it to alcohol, shall we?

Alcohol is, as I've heard, technically speaking a hard drug. It's physically as well as mentally addictive, and in the long run, when consumed in too large quantities, it has devastating effects on both the body and the mind. Yet lots of people drink it on a regular basis, in moderation, keeping the harmful effects to a minimum. It is in our Western civilization a socially accepted drug, it has been a part of our culture for as long as we can remember. So we are used to alcohol, we know how to handle it (at least most of us do), and we can get it without coming into contact with shady drug dealers that try to get us hooked on other stuff for their own $$.

Weed, or marihuana, pot or whatever you want to call it, is only mentally addictive. Most of the harmful effects on the body from smoking it comes from the tobacco in a joint, not the actual weed. The effects of a long-time habit are only mentally, problems with concentrating the mind on something and the like. But there is somewhat of a taboo on it, resulting in the fact that people who use marihuana excessively mostly aren't helped as they should. Plus the illegality leads to a criminal scene around it, with as a result that people who use it have to rely on those shady dealers mentioned earlier.

At least this is the problem as I see it.

I should point out that more people die from aspirin than from hash. There are no reported fatalities directly attributable to it. Which isn't a bad safety record as things go. As has been pointed out before and will probably be pointed out again - it is a hell of a lot safer than alcohol.

When we're in to comparasion, I've found some info on marijuana/hemp
Mostly connected to the U.S:

1. Cannabis and hemp are the same, "marijuana" was the mexican name given to cannabis.

2. Cannabis was first cultivated in China around 4000 B.C.

3. The original draftsof the Declaration of Independence were written on hemp paper.

4. One acre hemp will produce as much paper as four acres of trees.

5. Hemp is a source of fiber for cloth and cordage for rope. The hemp fiber is located inside the long stem of the plant.

6. George Washington and Thomas Jefferson grew hemp. Washington, america's first president, declared; "Make the most of the hemp seed. Sow it everywhere".

7. Hemp seed is nature's perfect food. The oil from hemp seeds has the highest percentage of essential fatty acids and the lowest percentage of satured fats.

8. Sterilized hemp seed is commonly sold as bird seed.

9. Rolling papers, like Bambu, are made from hemp paper.

10. In 1937, the marijuana Tax Stamp Act prohibited the use, sale and cultivation of hemp/marijuana in the U.S.

11. Five years later, during the World War II, the U.S. departement of Agriculture released the film "Hemp For Victory" which encouraged the American farmers to grow hemp for the war effort.

12. Hemp is cultivated all over the world. Today, China, Italy, Hungary, Russia and France are among the countries that grow hemp for fiber, paper and other products.

13. Cannabis is classified as a shedule 1 drug by the Food and Drug Administration in the U.S. Designated as a narcotic, it cannot be prescribed by physicians to patients.

14. In 1998, the American DEA's own administrative law judge concluded that "marijuana is one of the safest, therapeutically active substances known to man".

15: Cannabis can be uesd as a medicine to treat nausea, pain and muscle spasms. It alleviates symptomes of glaucoma, multiple sclerosis, AIDS, migraines and other debilitating ailments.

16. Thirty-five states in the U.S. have passed ligislation permitting medical use of marijuana.

17. Twelve Americans recieve prescribed marijuana from the U.S. goverment.

18. More than 400,000 Americans are arrested each year on marijuana charges.

19. More than 400,000 Americans die from diseases related to cigarette smoking each year. more than 150,000 Americans die of alcohol abuse each year. But in 10,000 years of usage, no one has ever died from marijuana!

Okay the last bit may not be true , but it's pretty interesting info, right?

And Ziroc, I'm glad you won't ban me

Ok, that's alcohol gone too, and cigarettes, pretty soon they'd make salt illegal cos too much is bad for you.
*Gets flashback of 'Demolition man'*

I didn't quite mean it that way but you do have a good point. I don't think it is quite as drastic as you made it out ( ) but I see your point.

But, you can see the advantages. I know, I'm only 13, but alot of my friends smoke. I'm not against smoking, but just don't expect to get a kind reaction from me if you smoke near me. Also, I never become really good friends with people who smoke. But, I've nothing against it......

DJG Ponders......
But if I don't make friends with people who smoke, in theory don't I have something against it?

EDIT: About Marijuana, someone said no-one dies to it. Is it addictive? Really I need info please, because I don't know about it.
Thanks.

I agree with Scholarcs in that it should be de-criminalised rather than legalised (this means that if you are caught with only so much, you get an instant fine rather than getting a conviction against you - which can be very bad if you ever want to travel or get certain jobs. AFAIK this also makes it available as an alternative medicine for Cancer and other sicknesses)
I used to smoke it, (not heavily) but I gave it up due to it screwing up my memeory (do you know how frustrating it is trying to remember the name of a town that you have driven through seven or eight times or when your boss asks you to do something in the morning, it gets to the afternoon and you finaly have time to do it but can't remember what it is!)
I was never addicted but I know people that are and in this respect it is not a "harmless" drug(it's quite expensive down here in little ol' NZ), I still have the odd puff and when someone serves green "banana" cake at a party it's only polite to have a piece
I agree with those of you here, that believe people should be able to do what they want with their bodies so long as they aren't hurting anybody else. JMHO

I've heard the exact opposite from many people, see (my old chemistry teacher among others )

I had to do a report on it years ago and that figure stuck out in my head.

"Marijuana smoking is particularly harmful to the lungs, more so than tobacco cigarettes. Joints are most always smoked unfiltered and down to the smallest butt possible and, to get the "best high", one must inhale deeply and hold the smoke longer in their lungs than tobacco smoke. Marijuana smoke contains not only delta-9-THC, but also numerous chemicals similar to tobacco tars, and about 50% more cancer-causing hydrocarbons than a tobacco cigarette."

I just did a quick search and turned

this up. Your teachers or whatever are wrong. It really is worse for you then tobacco.
