Since my Imonen probably won't reach 9th level casting ability by game's end, can I still win?

Of course you can. Time Stop is yet another powerful spell - it is, by no means, crucial or essential. Other powerful spells abound.

In fact, you CAN win without using any spells - numerous fighter soloists can confirm

And without ToB or an XP-cap remover, you won't be able to get that spell anyway.

Doesn't mean you can't cast them off the scroll. No matter what level of spellcaster you are, you can cast spells off a scroll, provided you have the class and INT/WIS to do it.(In the wonderful BG2 Quiz #3 provided by Misters Spades and Giant, you can learn that there are quite a number of those scrolls in SoA.)

And this is post #4 saying that no, you don't need the spell to beat that battle or any other in the game, for that matter. It just makes things a heckuva lot easier.

Just a tiny nitpick, Pirengle: Arcane scrolls (including Time Stop, obviously) have no INT/WIS requirements whatsoever. As long as the character can cast arcane spells (or has UAI), he/she will be able to cast from a scroll.

Interesting trivia 1: Spells casted from scrolls are always casted at level 10 (=as if casted by a level 10 caster), even if the character who's reading it is level, say, 16.

Interesting trivia 2: Scrolls seem to be ForceSpell'd - which practically means that you can cast from scrolls even if you're silenced, deafened, insect-plague'd, etc, etc... Especially useful when solo!

Cool, Alson !

Very useful information up there.
Is this written anywhere (Spell guide, Manual, ...) or just tested ?

I've read #1 somewhere... I think it was in the Imp. Ilyich README, advising you to let Imoen cast those scrolls (as Imoen's level is most likely lower than 10).

As for #2 - I discovered it myself, but I'm sure others have already noted it before.
