CBC is doing a TV show on the greatest Canadian. So I thought I would do the poll here to see what the world thinks. Here is the list of nominees.

Frederick Banting
Alexander Graham Bell
Don Cherry (What is the country coming to!!!! )
Tommy Douglas
Terry Fox
Wayne Gretzky (A hockey player???)
Sir John A. Macdonald
Lester B. Pearson
David Suzuki (An Environmentalist???)
Pierre Elliott Trudeau (Whatever this top ten is rigged)

My pick is Frederick Banting, if your a diabetic, or have someone close to you who is than you would want to thank your lucky stars for this guy.

My second pick is Terry Fox, both have had an impact on more than just there country.

I guess Alexander Graham Bell have had Lester B. Pearson an impact as well but those are the only 4 I would consider as greatest Canadian.

I suppose it depends upon how one defines 'greatest Canadian'. Greatest positive impact on Canada? Greatest positive impact on the world by a Canadian? Best embodies what it is to be Canadian? Shrug. All I know is nobody nominated me (sniff).

They're the last people I'd nominate.

Banting gets a vote from me, although Fox is right there also.

John A gets number three. Pearson and Wilfrid Laurier (PM during the First World War) round out my top five.

Edit: however, if we're talking about sheer grit and determination and courage, Terry Fox wins by a whole lot. The guy ran over 3000 miles on a prosthetic leg with cancer developing in his lungs. It's impossible not to be affected when you see footage of him limping along, running a marathon a day, sometimes with blood running down his leg.

Bell gets my vote, although if I knew who Terry Fox was before I voted I might have changed my mind.
