For some reason Notepad randomly decides to close when I'm using it. I can't see a pattern in it's closing. Sometimes it stays on ages, sometimes it closes straight away.

Any ideas what has caused this, any a way to stop it?

Cheers

Do you possibly have some hot key set? Maybe in one of the programs in the tray? Just a WAG.

Nope, nothing.

Also another problem is that IE refuses to open. I tried the start menu option, quick menu options, and even finding it in Windows Explorer but it doesn't work, although it does run in processes.

Luckily I use Firefox, but I'd prefer if IE did work, so I can access my MSN when I sign in on MSN Messenger and not have to sign in via the website.

Sometimes IE won't open for me. I've found that if I hold the control key down whileclicking on th Ie icon in the tray, Ie will load ok.

I know it's the easy out, but...

... you've done the various scans for spyware and malware, right? Spybot, AdAware, and HiJack This?

Disk defragmentation suddenly feels liks a possible answer, too. I don't know why.

I've used Spybot S&D, AdAware, Norton, HouseCall, Spysweeper.

I'll give Disk Fragmentation a go after I run all the checkers again.

Try another text editor. Much like IE, Notepad seems to be built right into windows, so a problem with it could be a problem anywhere on your system. Try ConTEXT - small download, painless install (don't have it replace notepad, though), and if it doesn't work (or you don't like it) it's easy to get rid of too.

I have posted here in the past about a notepad spyware, that pushes the real notepad out of the way and the spyware version causing some troubles...especially when trying to access notepad for work.

Check it out.

You have restarted your computer, right?

If so, how long has this being going on for? Did you do anything the day it started this?
