I'd suggest reading thru the "Am I the only one I just hate Minsc" thread. It discusses how different people use Minsc (if at all). As I've stated there, I like using the Shield of Harmony (for all sorts of mental protection), the Mace of Disruption, and Azuredge (the undead killing magic throwing axe). I trade a little offense for maximizing defense, both AC and mental (charm, confusion, domination, and hold) immunities.

Blunt weapons are the deadliest, however, because any armor wearing humanoid will have defensive bonuses to slashing and piercing (these are very high with plate mail) but no bonus to crushing. So I have a level 9 Minsc with proficiency in the flail, with a +2 mace in his right hand and the flail of ages in the other. Eventually Minsc will use two flails.

Plus, those two handed swords are terribly slow, they do not compare to the damage of dual wield crushing weapons.

Spoiler...

It's the Lilarcor (sp?) and it can be found under the Copper Coronet. 1d10+3, pretty nice and one of the best weapons that early in the game. Fun too. "Ya know, once, yeah, I was like, a Moonblade!".

I use a 2hsword on Minsc atm, but I also have two maces ready when I meet undead. It depends on the situation.

well, my take on it is that minsc has aa two handed sword proficiency. i try to give a character weapons based on weapon ability, in the premise a crappy weapon in the hands of a skilled user is better than a good weapon on a fighter who's never held one other than on "mace day" or "crossbow day" at the dojo.

UserUnFriendly,
I agree that characters should be armed with weapons that they are skilled in using. However, Minsc IS skilled in 2H sword, Mace, and Long Bow, as well as dual wielding. My own personal preference is for maxing out AC at the expense of offense. (ie. using a single handed weapon and a shield vs using a more powerful 2H weapon).

I always saw Minsc with a two handed weapon like the Vorpal. There are too many 2H weapons in this game and not enough characters to wield them. How many of you actually use halberds? And there are quite a few +4 halberds in the game. I had Minsc carrying around about 5 halberds 'just in case'.

Heres a thought for all you dual wielding junkies out there. Minsc can only become specialised (two stars) at dual wielding, right? So he's gonna be using his second weapon at a -4 penalty. I dont really think it is worth it. ALso someone said that 2H swords are slow, well yes they are slow, but most 2H swords of +2 or higher have a lower speed factor dont they. Anyway I always see Minsc as a 2H wielder, what with his high strength and all. Dual Wield is for pansies in my opinion, and Minsc aint a Pansy!

Memnoch,
Thank God! I thought it was just me. I had 3 or 4 badass Halberds in my inv 'just in case'. They were still there at the end of the game. I never swung them once. Next game.......who knows?
