Take your pick. It might help if you state whether you're looking for something more defensive or just a plain damage dealer. The pure classed kensai is going to add plenty of damage on his own so maybe you could look for something with some defensive properties.
Upgraded Flail of Ages - offensive masher Runehammer - I think its negative plane protected Arguvandale(am I close) - it increases strength once per day Hindo's Doom - Restoration and then later Greater Restoration, nice defensive katana You could combine one of those with something brought along from SOA, unless you're starting out in TOB. Or go with one of the most overpowered weapons in the game, Ravager.

Celestial Fury wóuld be a very defensive item since the stun effect would keep enemies from attacking you. Why not take a backup proficiency in some, you can easily get five stars in another weapon.

Katana seems very 'in character' and the celestial furbie is a great weapon.

Better for a Kensai? It depends on the situation. Hindo`s Doom (katana) will protect you from death affect(s). FoA can be very deadly (cheesy) weapon. Warhammer such as the Runehammer can be a good way to protect yourself from Level Drain. CFury is excellent in the hands of Kensai. He has high ApR rate so he`ll probably Stun most of his enemies, and since Stun means Auto-Hit everyone is probably dead on sight. |

I dunno, Xen, I kinda like the sound of "Furbie." Reminds of those little electronic dolls everyone used to have. Revenge of the Furbies!!!

Slight nitpick: Proper syntax is "death effect(s)" and not "death affect(s)" I do think that it's more in-character for a kensai to carry a blade, and not a blunt weapon. However, you'll have more interesting weapons to pick from if you go with longswords... With katanas, it's "Ho-hum, Celestial Fury or Hindo's Doom.... Yawn."

Flails and baby! Get the Flail of Ages and the (can't remember it's name) flail you get from the bonus merchant in the Copper Coronet.
I'd add Bastard Swords or Longswords too (I'm not a big fan of Celestial Fury, as it loses it's effectiveness as the game goes on), in case you need a pointy weapon for certain Golems.
