As much as I hate it that a series of books is my favorite...(or that it's 4 instead of 3)
**Hyperion, The Fall of Hyperion, Endymion and The Rise of Endymion** All by Dan Simmons

Not that I don't like the other books here, of course. 'Cause I do.

Too hard to pick my absolute favourites, but 3 great authors to consider:

Iain Banks - writes really gnarly, epic space opera as well as quirky contemporary novels. Must reads are The Crow Road (contempory) and Consider Phlebas (space opera)

Mary Gentle - only read one of her books, Ash, and it just blew me away.

J.V.Jones - read her Cavern of Black Ice fantasy books, for a really detailed, authentic feeling world of clans and tribes. Very impressive.

I think the Icewind Dale trilogy was the best story I've ever read, or it was at least on par with LOTR.

Other than that, The Jester by James Patterson (and somebody else whose name escapes me) is absolutely brilliant, The Hobbit remains my most enjoyable reading experience, and I also really loved The Hitchhiker's Guide series, although my interest in them has cooled since I read a bit about Douglas Adams and decided that he wasn't the man I'd imagined him to be and I really don't like him very much at all.

Wow, that turned pretty nasty towards the end there. Sorry Douglas, may you forever rest in peace, and stuff.

I'd like to pick hree trilogy's, rather than 3 books.

The first two are must reads in my opinion; the third is great too.

The Farseer Trilogy
Assassin's Apprentice
Royal Assassin
Assassin's Quest

The Tawny Man Trilogy
Fool's Errand
Golden Fool
Fool's Fate

The Liveship Traders Trilogy
Ship of Magic
The Mad Ship
Ship of Destiny.

These books are just amazing, they keep you u[ all night when you are 300 pages from the end of one. The first 70 pages of Assassin's Apprentice took a bit of getting into I thought, but after that it was great.

Pick 'em up

Are the three trilogies related in any way other than the uncanny "key word in each title... In the same pattern" link?

Edit: Okay, a bit of Googling has answered that, never mind
