Uhhm midnightforce... there are metal bands, and there are metal bands.... If you listened to Q2 music during Baldurs Gate, I would think you were a sad bastard. But some metal groups genre is called "Epic Metal" "Power Metal" "Gothic Metal" Epic metal is even set in fantasy worlds after tolkien etc. Blind guardian has lots of instrumenal songs, that are just like the baldurs gate songs. Its just when itsa battle you hear the revving off the electric guitar!
We are not talking about populaer metal bands like pantera here (yuck) Emperor are really good with moody gothic/dark/nordic metal (would go with icewind dale) and there are many bands that are really fantasy orientated |

I love to listen to rock & roll when i play. I've been on a jethro tull kick and i find it to be excellent listening for this. i can imagine that metallica works well, too. i'd stay away from the soft pop and junk like that, too boring. Not really hack-n-slash. but i can also see where classic orchestrated music goes quite well, i'll have to try some of your suggestions.

Uhhmm :
Demons & Wizards Kicks A$$!!!! It is one of my fav. albums of all time Hammerfall Angra (Angel's cry.....) How about Rhapsody? I know itsa bit corny at times, but its quite heroic power metal! Also Iced earth rule. Uhhm Metallica DEFINATELY do not work well, they are a bit crap lets face it (napster boohoo!) Only the earlier albums, with proper speed metall would work. Also Luca Turilli |

Now, as for me, it depends on what kind of mood I'm in.
Let's see: Picini's Tosca or if I'm feeling somewhat more amusing then Rossini's il Barbiere di Sevilla, violin concerts from Beethoven or, of course, Moonlight Sonata. Ahhhh.. the melancholy as you slaughter and work High Magic... then there is italina lute music for a little bit of the middle-ages mood. ..and of course ANTIPOP from Primus just for the sake of jarring contrast!!!!!! ..damn, anything from Primus. PS: I really didnt know that there was a whole bunch of half-RPG bands in the world.. that's kinda cool |
