My room is very cold, and my fingers are much less dextrious when it's cold. I tend to type "an (word beginning with consonent)", or "wqs".

Can anyone really be bothered with can't and don't instead of cant and dont? I very rarely type those things out correctly, and I doubt there's any possibility to misinterpret either cant or dont.

I believe the word "cant" means to sing. Is there a difference between "I sing" and "I can not"?

'Cant', as mentioned, is a very different word to can't. As far as the question "Can anyone be bothered.." doesn't the amount of replies supporting the apostrophe show that plemty CAN be bothered?

Or are you attempting to speak for Mr. Everyman again?

'Cant' is a form of language ascribed to the thieving classes of the past centuries. Naturally, advertising your thieving plans by talking about them in public was not a good idea, so thieves used 'cant', which was only comprehensible by other thieves. In this manner, even a careful listener would not be able to determine what you were discussing.

It also served an identification purpose. If you were a thief and you wanted to 'check someone out' and see if they were also a scoundrel, you would drop a few cant words into the conversation. If they picked up on it, then it was fairly certain they are also a thief. If all you got was blank incomprehension, then it wouldn't be wise to discuss your latest heist with them

If it helps at all, think of cant as slang - only far more pronounced.

The short answer : yes, cant and can't are extremely distinct tokens

This is serious isn't it

I met someone who folded everyone's clothe's wherever they went. Never a closet unfolded and arranged. Out of place threads were treated like casualty's of someones wardrobe. Life to...

aspostrophus is a sign of superscript and should always be considered.

What I have always liked about IW is that as long as the intent is good, most written material can be taken as easy reading. I sometimes feel I can't post as much as I want because of preceived ideas of people who have excelled in class . Some of the best teachers in my life were not critical of style, only of content.

Death to even a tad of the law ruin's it right? I would think that in a context of mediums, between merchants of the same trade, buyers would flock to the best source of the product and even thow the other may have been honorable his goods were equal, just different looking. Did it make it less desirable? Even with several container changes his business went under all was lost. Even the spot of his selling point went unrented for years.
