i know that mages/cleric's must memorize spells where as a sorcerer does not. other than that what is the biggest differece between the 3? note: i mean a plain generic mage not a specialty mage. which ones are good for what? it would stand to reason that a cleric is better at healing people, but other than memorizing spells, and writing them in your spellbook whats the big advantages/dis-advantages to having EITHER a mage OR sorcerer OR cleric

One HUGE difference is that the spells that a mage/sorceror can choose from are completely different to those that a cleric can choose from. Clerics tend to have healing/protective/undead related spells whereas mages have 'Magic' spells.
As far as Sroceror vs Mage, the key difference is that the Sorceror doesn't have to 'memorize' spells. Rather, the spells the sorc knows are always available (up to a certain number/level). The sorceror learns chooses to learn new spells at level up, rather than from reading scrolls like the mage does. This is HUGE--if you play a sorceror, you'd better make damn sure you know what spells to choose! Once you have chosen a spell, you cannot swap it for somehting else later. |

Hello Angry Dwarf!
Here are the major differences as I see them: Clerics: good THAC0, good armor, decent weapons, nice spells, many spells, few castings. Mage: lame THAC0, lame armor, lame weapons, great spells, many spells, few castings. Sorcerer: lame THAC0, lame armor, lame weapons, great spells, few spells, many casting. Here's how they compare in a solo fight: Cleric: pick spells before fight, sleep, buff up, use maybe 1-2 spells vs. particularly tough opponents, fight on front line or from the back, heal up after fight. Mage: pick spells before fight, sleep, buff up, use many spells vs. all opponents, fight from rear, go look for an inn to rest for a week & heal up. Sorcerer: cast Project Image, rain nuclear death upon his foes, see them driven before him, hear the lamentations of their women, move on to next fight. -- Nifft |

the difference between cleric and mage spells is that mage spells tend to be more for your oponents while cleric spells tend to be more for you and your party

Mage, sorceror, cleric...dont forget the skald!!!!
Great magiks, hows Jaihera with -16 AC? His song can do it!! Clerics magic i think is better used after or before combat Mage can be dualled l8r if u have the stats Sorceror has the best spell pix, cannot dual, and is VERY weak hand to hand (weaker than Aerie) |

Clerics are by far the best. This is because they can wear armour, they dont have to write spells, they can cast powerfull spells at lower levels than mages, they can continue to cast spells even after they get hit. Mages and Sorcerors are crap because they cant wear armour, the mage can be interrupted easily by being attacked, they Sorceror learns spells really slowly....
The Clerics are by far the best.
