Kaltia, you've got to remember these people online don't KNOW you. They only know your online form, they can't cuss what they don't know. Anything they could have said could only have been bollocks because they don't know you in real life. You've got to learn to just shrug it off on the web. Because people aren't face to face they get bold and think they can say anything. This is wrong and I bet none of them would have said what they said if it was a face-to-face conversation.

And the simple fact is that these people aren't the brightest in the world. Why do something as extreme as take off from the net and be insulted by people that can barely type a sentence without saying... something I can't say. They think they're big but the fact is that you really can't take a person's words and attitude seriously, they act big because they're acting (some talking) back into a computer screen. Could be guys that have no life and have to do something such as insult people just to feel big, it's stupid. Mouse is right. It's a real shame that in life you will (no matter how studiously you try to avoid them) meet up with people who are at best a total waste of flesh. It's unavoidable.

However, even a card-carrying cynic like me will say that people like this can't affect your life unless you let them. Let them wallow in their pit of despair, and get on with living your life the way you want. Every second you spend stressing about the nasty people in the world is time wasted.

To further confuse my fellow cynics, i will actually say that the number of genuinely nice people you meet in life greatly outweigh the trash present on that forum. Denying yourself internet access because of the oh-so-threatening inadequates out there is like never going out of the house, for fear of meeting a nutter.

Chalk this experience up as a lesson learned. When you encounter idiots like that, don't fight, don't reply, don't respond to their bait. Just ignore. If you do that, they're totally powerless to harm you in any way.

I know it's easy for us to say, but Mouse is right - forget it, move on, and don't grace the sickos with any more of your time. Leaving them alone with their considerable problems is often the best solution in terms of self preservation (and revenge, if you're that way inclined )

Don't give up talking to the friends you do have online just because some delinquent fools opened their big wide mouths and showed us their exceptionally tiny brains. To do that is to let them win. Carry on as if they don't exist, and everything will be fine.

The internet is not a nasty place - there are some nasty people (like in life) and some nasty areas. The trick is to visit those places you know are nice, and don't visit those that are not. I didn't read much on the link you posted though I glanced at it - was disgusting and you don't deserve or need to put up with crap like that. And you don't have to! As you've said, IW, and many other places are not like that.

I absolutely understand that you're feeling upset and disrespected. I've been there. I used to play an online game and there were some people there who were really rude and disrepectful towards me, being one of the few females. Fortunately I had friends there who stood up for me, and the wankers were made to look like the wankers they were. So do you have friends here.

Take a break. Change your email and msn etc if you need to. But don't write the whole internet off as a horrible place because that's just not true *hugs*
